Office Chair Pedal Modification

Admin October 12, 2026

If you need to add or replace a pedal for your office chair, choose an appropriate solution based on specific needs and strictly follow operational guidelines to ensure safety and functionality.

1. Replacing the Pedal on Sihoo C300/C500 Chairs

These pedals are secured to the bottom of the chair with three screws. The replacement steps are as follows:

  1. Preparation: Lay down foam padding or a soft cloth on the ground to prevent scratches when the chair back contacts the floor; prepare a screwdriver of the corresponding size (usually Phillips or flat-head).
  2. Removing the Old Pedal: Turn the chair upside down or lay it on its side to expose the fixing screws at the bottom. Rotate counterclockwise to remove the three screws and take off the old pedal.
  3. Installing the New Pedal: Align the screw holes of the new pedal with the fixing positions on the chair body, and tighten the screws clockwise to ensure no looseness.
Note: Avoid excessive force during operation to prevent screw stripping. After installation, test the stability of the pedal.

2. Modifying a Regular Office Chair to Have a Movable Pedal

If you need to convert a fixed pedal to a movable one, customize a solution based on the chair's structure (e.g., five-star base or bow-shaped base):

  1. Measuring Parameters: Use a vernier caliper to measure the diameter of the footrest's fixing holes, the hole pitch (distance between the centers of adjacent holes), and the height of the footrest to ensure compatibility with new casters.
  2. Selecting Casters: Choose based on floor materialโ€”nylon wheels for hard floors (e.g., tile, wood), and rubber wheels for carpets; prioritize swivel casters with brake functions for enhanced safety.
  3. Installing Casters: Remove the original fixing components (e.g., screws or clips), insert the casters into the fixing holes, and secure them with screws or clips; if the hole diameter does not match, use an adapter or enlarge the hole (wear safety goggles to prevent debris).
Note: After modification, test the smoothness of chair movement and the braking function to avoid tipping due to loose casters.

3. Transforming a Sofa Footrest into an Office Chair Footrest

If you need to convert an independent sofa footrest into a sit-able office chair footrest, reinforce the structure and comfort:

  1. Assessing Load Capacity: Check the material of the footrest base (e.g., wood or metal). If it is plastic, confirm its load capacity (recommended not less than 100kg) and reinforce the base if necessary (e.g., by attaching a metal plate).
  2. Adding a Backrest and Seat Cushion: Use high-density foam (thickness โ‰ฅ 5cm) to cut the shapes of the seat cushion and backrest, wrap them with durable fabric (e.g., Oxford cloth), and secure them to the footrest; adjust the backrest angle to 95ยฐ-105ยฐ for ergonomic support.
  3. Testing Stability: Place heavy objects (e.g., sandbags) to simulate human pressure and check for deformation of the base; if the height of the footrest is insufficient, add adjustable legs (e.g., telescopic legs).
Note: After modification, regularly check the fixation of the fabric and foam to prevent detachment due to long-term use.

General Safety Tips: Disconnect power or remove the chair's gas lift (if applicable) during all modification operations to avoid accidental triggering; wear safety goggles and gloves when drilling or cutting to prevent debris injuries; after completion, thoroughly check the tightness of screws and structural stability.
