Office Chair Parallel to Door

Admin October 12, 2026

It is not advisable to place the office chair parallel to the door. From the perspectives of Feng Shui principles and practical user experience, this arrangement has many drawbacks, which are elaborated below:

Feng Shui Perspective

In Feng Shui, having the office desk directly facing the office door is considered an unfavorable layout. When the office chair is parallel to the door, it often means that the office desk is also directly facing the door. This layout can easily expose the person at work to direct impacts from external air currents, making it difficult to concentrate. The door is a passage for air currents to enter and exit. Working directly facing the door allows constant interference from external noises and people moving around, causing emotional fluctuations and making it hard to maintain a calm and focused work state. Being in such an environment for a long time may also have certain impacts on health, such as causing headaches and insomnia.

Practical User Experience Perspective

From a practical usage standpoint, placing the office chair parallel to the door is also not very reasonable. When someone enters or exits the office, they will directly see the person sitting in the office chair, which may make the person feel a lack of security and that their privacy is not protected. Moreover, if the office door is frequently opened and closed, the resulting noise will disturb the person working, affecting work efficiency. Additionally, this arrangement may lead to inefficient use of space in the office area, resulting in narrow passages and inconvenient movement for people.

Solutions

If the office chair is already placed parallel to the door, some measures can be taken to mitigate the adverse effects. Adjusting the position of the office desk is the most direct and effective method. Move the office desk to a position where it does not directly face the door, such as placing it sideways or with its back to the door. Setting up a screen or partition is also a good option. Installing a screen or partition between the office desk and the door can block external interference and also increase the privacy of the office area. Adjusting the position of the door, although relatively complex to operate, can also be considered if conditions permit, to avoid having the office desk directly face the door. Installing a door curtain is also a simple and feasible method. Putting up a door curtain on the door can to some extent block external air currents and noise, reducing their impact on work.
