Office Chair Painting Tutorial
Here is the office chair painting tutorial:

Preparation
Choose an open and well-ventilated location for the painting work, such as by the window of an unused warehouse or outdoors. This prevents the accumulation of harmful gases generated during the painting process indoors, which can be hazardous to health. Also, prepare the necessary tools, including spray paint, sandpaper, and rags. Select the appropriate color and type of spray paint based on the material of the office chair and personal preferences. Sandpaper is used to sand the surface of the office chair to make it smoother and more even. Rags are for cleaning dust and wiping off excess paint.
Cleaning
Carefully clean the dust off the surface of the office chair with a rag to ensure there are no impurities or dirt. Dust and other impurities can affect the adhesion and smoothness of the paint layer, resulting in a poor painting effect.
Sanding
- Dealing with the old paint layer: If the paint layer on the surface of the office chair is damaged or peeling, use a tool to scrape off the old paint layer first and then sand it. If the glaze or paint film is intact, you can sand it directly with sandpaper.
- Sanding requirements: When sanding, make the entire surface flat. Sweep away the dust generated by sanding with a rag. The surface should feel slightly gritty to the touch. For office chairs made of metal, it is advisable to wear a dust mask when sanding. Use medium-grit (60 - 100 rating) sandpaper and sand with medium pressure and overlapping strokes. This can better remove surface impurities and old paint while ensuring an even sanding effect.
Painting and Coloring
- Base color treatment: Consider the base color of the office chair. If the base color is light, you can directly apply the paint. If the base color is dark, use white paint as a base first and then apply the desired color. This enhances the coverage, makes the color more vibrant, and saves paint.
- Using spray paint: Before using spray paint, shake the can to fully mix the contents inside and avoid color differences caused by pigment sedimentation.
- Painting method: Maintain a distance of 20 - 30 cm and paint in a zigzag pattern. This ensures an even distribution of the paint layer and prevents runs or uneven thickness. Apply small amounts multiple times to even it out. The paint will usually dry in about 10 - 20 minutes after painting. You can also use a paintbrush to apply the paint. Take a clean paintbrush, dip it into the paint, and wipe off the excess paint on the inner lip of the can. Then, apply the paint with long, thin, overlapping strokes from top to bottom. Wait for the paint to dry before adding another layer. Some quick-drying paints can be ready for a second coat in 10 minutes. Check the paint label for the specific drying time, as humid environments can prolong the drying time.
