Office Chair Painting Techniques
The following steps can be referred to for office chair painting techniques:

I. Preparation When choosing a painting site, ventilation should be given priority. It is recommended to work near the window of an unused warehouse or in an open outdoor area to avoid safety hazards caused by the accumulation of paint mist. Tools to be prepared include aerosol paint, sandpaper (it is recommended to use 240 - 400 grit), a clean cloth, protective masks, and gloves. If the office chair is made of metal, an anti-rust primer should be prepared additionally; for wooden or plastic chairs, ensure that there is no oil residue on the surface.
II. Surface Pre-treatment
- Cleaning and Dust Removal: Wipe the chair surface with a slightly damp cloth, focusing on removing accumulated dust in the crevices. Proceed to the next step after it is completely dry.
- Paint Layer Evaluation: Check the integrity of the original paint film. If there are peeling, blistering, or scratches deeper than 0.5mm, use a scraper to completely remove the damaged area and grind the edges into a slope shape to avoid abruptness.
- Overall Sanding: Use sandpaper to sand evenly along the direction of the wood grain or metal texture. The force should be such that the surface has a matte finish. Pay attention to rounding the edges to prevent sharp edges from reflecting light after painting.
III. Painting Operation Specifications
- Primer Treatment:
- For dark bases (such as black and dark brown), first spray 2 - 3 layers of white water-based primer with an interval of 15 minutes between each layer to ensure complete coverage of the original color.
- For light bases, the target color can be sprayed directly, but the adhesion between the aerosol paint and the original material should be confirmed. If necessary, an adhesion promoter should be added.
- Spraying Techniques:
- Shake the can for at least 3 minutes to fully mix the internal pigment and solvent to avoid color differences or sagging.
- Keep the spray can perpendicular to the chair surface at a distance of about 25 - 30cm. Move in an 'S' - shaped trajectory with an overlap rate of 50%.
- Spray thinly in 3 - 4 times with an interval of 10 minutes between each time to prevent the paint film from being too thick and cracking.
- For complex structures (such as the corners of armrests), adjust the angle and spray multiple times to ensure no missed areas.
IV. Post-treatment and Maintenance After painting, let it stand for 24 hours. After the paint film is completely cured, lightly polish the surface with 800-grit sandpaper to remove the grainy feel. If a matte finish is desired, a transparent matte protective paint can be sprayed; for a glossy finish, car wax should be applied to enhance the luster. Avoid scratching with sharp objects during daily use and clean with a neutral detergent and a soft cloth.
Precautions:
- Wear a gas mask during the painting process to avoid inhaling organic solvents.
- Waste paint cans should be treated as hazardous waste and not discarded randomly.
- When the temperature is lower than 15ยฐC or the humidity is higher than 80%, the drying time should be extended or heating equipment should be used to assist in curing.
