Office Chair Packing and Moving
Admin October 14, 2026
Packing and moving office chairs requires deciding whether to disassemble them based on the available space and the chair's structure, and following a standardized process for packing and moving. Here are the specific steps and precautions:

Determining Whether to Disassemble
- Conditions for Not Disassembling: If the moving corridor and transportation vehicle have sufficient space, and the chair has a simple structure or is complex to disassemble, you can directly wrap the entire chair with bubble wrap and stretch film in multiple layers to reduce disassembly and assembly steps.
- Conditions for Disassembling: If the moving space is limited, or the chair is of high value or has a precise structure, it is recommended to disassemble it before packing to reduce moving risks and ensure the safety of the components.
Disassembly Process (If Needed)
- Operation Sequence: Follow a logical sequence of "from the outside in, from top to bottom, and in reverse order of assembly" to avoid damaging components or making them impossible to reassemble due to incorrect sequence.
- Study the Manual: Carefully read the manual before disassembly to understand the disassembly method, avoiding forced assembly or disassembly that could damage the chair's structure or parts.
- Component Storage: Store the disassembled parts in accessory bags or sealed plastic bags, such as screws and washers, to prevent loss and label them with the corresponding components.
Packing Material Preparation
- Bubble Wrap: Used to wrap all components such as the chair body, backrest, and legs, providing cushioning and shock protection.
- Stretch Film/Wrap: Wrapped around the outer layer of the bubble wrap to secure the packing material, prevent it from loosening, and protect against dust and dirt.
- Packing Paper/Old Newspapers: Wrap components with easily scratched finishes or those that need special protection against dirt to avoid direct contact with other items.
- Cardboard Boxes: Used to hold disassembled parts. It is recommended to use boxes with dimensions of 60x40x50cm or 50x40x40cm to ensure the parts are securely placed.
- Wide Tape: Used to seal the cardboard boxes and secure the edges of the packing material to prevent them from coming apart during moving.
- Markers and Label Stickers: Mark the packed components or accessory bags for easy identification during reassembly.
Packing Steps
- Clean the Chair: Wipe the chair clean with a cloth, including the armrests and backrest, to avoid bringing dust into the new home and prevent slipping during packing.
- Disassemble and Wrap: For disassemblable chairs, disassemble them first and wrap the components with stretch film to ensure no exposed surfaces.
- Bubble Wrap Packing: Wrap the chair horizontally with two layers of bubble wrap, then wrap it vertically to ensure full coverage and sufficient cushioning.
- Outer Packaging Handling: If the original packaging is intact, place the packed chair directly into the original cardboard box; if the original packaging is lost, cut cardboard to make an outer package and protect the edges with hard corner protectors.
- Labeling: Attach labels to the packaging indicating "Fragile" or "Valuable" to remind movers to handle with care.
Moving Precautions
- Multiple Person Handling: If the chair is heavy, it is recommended that two people handle it to maintain even force distribution and prevent tipping.
- Force Point Selection: Do not use the armrests as force points when moving, as they are relatively fragile. It is recommended to lift by the seat to ensure structural stability.
- Route Planning: For large chairs, measure the length, width, and height before moving to determine if they can fit in elevators and staircases, and plan the moving route in advance to avoid obstructions.
