Office Chair Origami Manual
Admin October 16, 2026
There are two common methods for making office chair origami. Here is a detailed introduction for you:

Method 1
Use a square piece of paper measuring 15 by 15 centimeters.
- Initial Folding: First, fold the paper horizontally in half, then fold it in half again along the center line. Turn it over and repeat the folding operation on the other side. This step is to build the basic folding framework of the paper, preparing for more detailed folding later.
- Tri-section Folding: Fold the paper into three equal parts at the 2/3 position. Make a slight crease and then fold it tightly. This step requires some patience and precision to ensure that the tri-section folding is even and the creases are clear, as this will affect the shape and stability of the final office chair.
- Further Folding: Continue folding once along the 1/4 position and fold it up. Do the same on the other side to form creases. Then fold upwards along the creases of the tri-section, and fold the edges into small triangles along the creases and press them tight. These folding steps gradually shape the various parts of the office chair, and the folding of the small triangles adds a three-dimensional feel to the chair.
- Final Shaping: Fold the middle strip part over, turn the paper upside down and repeat the above steps to fold out small triangles. Continue folding the middle strip part, fold the excess edge parts and the top position down once, and finally trim the edge parts. After these delicate folds and trims, a complete office chair origami is finished.
Method 2
Use a square piece of paper with a side length of 15 centimeters.
- Basic Folding: First, fold the top and bottom edges in half, then fold the other two edges in half and unfold them. Fold the top and bottom edges towards the center crease. This step initially determines the folding direction and basic shape of the paper, laying the foundation for subsequent folding.
- Back Folding: Turn it over to the back. Fold the bottom edge up and the top edge down by about one-third, so that the folded part is roughly equal to the remaining part. Then fold it down and place it on the top edge on the back and fold it down to the specified position. These folding steps require accurate control of the proportions and positions to ensure that the shape of the chair meets expectations.
- Side Folding: Fold the left and right sides in by about one-third. Also fold the right side in, open up part of it and press it down to form a triangle. Do the same on the other side. The folding of the triangles is a key step in forming the seat and backrest of the chair. Pay attention to the angle and force of the folding.
- Adjustment and Shaping: Tuck one corner into the other corner, place it on the back, open it up and adjust it, and pinch out a crease. Do the same adjustment on the other side. Through these adjustment steps, the shape of the chair becomes more regular and stable, and the origami making of a simple office chair is finally completed.
