Office Chair Operation Skills

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chairs should be adjusted scientifically according to different functions. Proper use can enhance comfort and reduce physical fatigue. Here are the specific skills:

1. Seat Height Adjustment
Seat height is a core parameter affecting sitting posture. When adjusting, ensure both feet are flat on the ground, with the thighs and calves forming a 95ยฐ-100ยฐ angle, and the knees slightly lower than the hips. For chairs equipped with a pneumatic rod (such as executive chairs), maintain a sitting position while adjusting. Gently lift the control lever with your right hand to raise the seat and press down to lower it, using your body weight to assist in adjusting to the target height. If the knee bending angle is close to 90ยฐ and the soles of your feet can naturally touch the ground, it is the optimal height. It is strictly prohibited to forciblyๆŽฐๅŠจ (should be 'manipulate' or 'adjust') the pneumatic rod while standing, as this may cause the rod to break due to pressure imbalance, leading to safety hazards.

2. Sitting Posture Angle and Recline Adjustment
When maintaining a sitting posture, the backrest should be slightly reclined to 100ยฐ-110ยฐ, allowing the back, especially the lumbar region, to fit snugly against the backrest. If the chair is equipped with a lumbar support, adjust it to support the natural curvature of the lumbar spine and avoid a hollow waist. For chairs that can recline (such as executive chairs), the left control lever can adjust the recline force: lift the control lever and lean back to find a comfortable angle, then press down to lock it; some advanced chairs are equipped with knobs. Those with a heavier weight need to tighten the knob to increase resistance, and it can be loosened for a more relaxed feel during lunch breaks.

3. Armrest Height Matching
The height of the armrests should match the position of the elbows when they are naturally hanging down. After adjustment, the forearms should be able to rest easily on the armrests or the desktop, with the upper arms and forearms forming an angle close to 100ยฐ. If the armrests are too high, it will cause the shoulders to shrug; if they are too low, it will force the elbows to abduct, both of which may cause shoulder and neck fatigue.

4. Headrest and Additional Function Adjustment
The headrest should be adjusted according to height to support the back of the head. For example, the headrest of the Sihoo S300 can move forward and backward to accommodate people of different heights; some chair headrests also support height or angle adjustment, which should be fine-tuned according to the sitting posture to achieve neck comfort. In addition, multi-functional chairs (such as the C500 second generation) may be equipped with seat depth adjustment (sliding the seat forward and backward), gliding function (slight shaking to promote blood circulation), footrest adjustment (raising the legs during lunch breaks), etc., which need to be debugged one by one according to the usage scenario.

5. Dynamic Activities and Prohibitions
Even when adjusted to the best sitting posture, it is necessary to get up and move every 30 minutes. You can relieve muscle stiffness through hip joint stretching, lower back relaxation, shoulder-opening exercises, etc. At the same time, note that: it is prohibited to operate the pneumatic rod while standing to avoid damaging the parts due to violent manipulation; if the chair is equipped with a footrest, ensure the ground is flat when unfolding it to prevent tipping.

Proper use of the functional adjustments of an office chair, combined with regular activities, can significantly reduce the health risks associated with prolonged sitting.
