Selection of Oil for Office Chairs
Admin October 09, 2026
The choice of oil for office chairs should be based on the material and component type, as detailed below:

I. Selection of Care Oils by Material
Solid Wood Office Chairs
- Hard Wood Wax Oil: Contains Brazilian carnauba wax, offering high hardness, strong wear resistance, a semi-matte finish, and properties such as moisture resistance, stain resistance, pressure resistance, and resistance to chemical erosion.
- Furniture-Grade Care Oils (e.g., walnut oil, olive oil): Thoroughly clean and dry the surface first. Use a cotton cloth to apply a small amount of oil, thinly coating it along the grain. Let it sit for 1-2 hours to allow the oil to penetrate, then wipe off any excess oil with a dry, soft cloth.
- Carnauba Wax-Containing Wood Wax Oil: First, sand the surface. Use a cotton cloth to wipe along the wood grain, wait for 6 hours, then polish with a scouring pad, and finally air dry for 24 hours.
Leather Office Chairs
- Leather-Specific Conditioners: After cleaning and drying the surface, use a cotton cloth to apply a small amount of conditioner along the grain, thinly coating it. Let it sit for 1-2 hours, then wipe off any excess oil, leaving a small amount to form a protective film.
Plastic and Metal Office Chairs
- No Oil Application Required: Regular cleaning is sufficient. Avoid using oily substances that can make the surface sticky or cause corrosion.
II. Selection of Lubricants by Component Type
Low-Friction Parts (e.g., wheel rollers, pivot gaps)
- Low-Viscosity Light Lubricants (e.g., sewing machine oil, WD-40): Apply 1-2 drops to the gap each time, rotate the component back and forth several times to allow the oil to penetrate, then wipe off any excess oil on the surface.
Load-Bearing or Long-Stroke Components (e.g., pneumatic lift rods, slide rails)
- Lithium-Based Grease: Slowly apply along the component gap. After application, repeatedly push and pull the lift several times to ensure the grease adheres evenly, reducing friction and wear.
Precautions:
- Ensure the surface is clean and dry before applying oil to prevent dust or impurities from mixing into the oil and causing scratches.
- Use an appropriate amount of lubricant; excessive use may lead to oil residue or attract dust.
- Choose neutral-formula leather conditioners to avoid damage to the leather from alcohol or strong solvent components.
- If metal components are rusty, remove the rust before lubricating; otherwise, the lubrication effect will be significantly reduced.
