Office Chair Oil Leakage

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair oil leakage is usually related to the failure of the sealing system of the gas lift or hydraulic rod, and it requires immediate discontinuation of use and investigation and handling to avoid safety risks.

Causes of Oil Leakage

The core reason for oil leakage from the gas lift/hydraulic rod is the failure of the sealing system, which specifically includes:

  1. Seal Aging: Rubber seals such as O-rings age and wear out due to long-term use or environmental factors (such as high temperature and ultraviolet rays), resulting in a decrease in sealing performance.
  2. Component Damage: Scratches, cracks, or internal structural damage on the surface of the piston rod cause hydraulic oil to leak out through the gaps.
  3. Installation Issues: The gas lift is not installed centrally, or the sealing compression is abnormal (such as being too tight/loose), leading to local leakage.
  4. Abnormal Oil or Pressure: Contamination of the hydraulic oil (such as the entry of impurities) or excessive system oil pressure exceeds the tolerance range of the seals. The oil leakage positions are mostly concentrated at the connections between the gas lift and the base and the seat surface, or spread along the surface of the rod, forming oil stains.

Safety Risks

Oil leakage not only affects the user experience but may also pose safety hazards:

  • Functional Failure: The lifting is jerky, the height cannot be locked, or it sinks automatically, resulting in an unstable seat.
  • Slip Risk: The leaked oil makes the floor slippery, increasing the possibility of people slipping and getting injured.
  • Health Hazards: Some hydraulic oils contain toxic or corrosive components, and contact with the skin or accidental ingestion may cause health problems.

Handling Steps

  1. Immediate Discontinuation of Use: If the oil leakage is severe, the oil stains spread quickly, or there are lifting abnormalities (such as strange noises or functional failures), stop using it and move it to a safe area.
  2. Investigation and Cleaning:
    • Observe the position and degree of oil leakage and take photos to record the initial state.
    • Wipe off the oil stains with a clean soft cloth and check again after standing still to see if the leakage continues.
    • Check whether the lifting function is smooth and investigate external causes such as overloading or severe impacts.
  3. Choose a Handling Path:
    • Within the Warranty Period: Contact the brand's official after-sales service (such as Deli), provide proof of purchase, and make an appointment for on-site inspection and repair or replacement.
    • Outside the Warranty Period:
      • If it is due to seal aging or installation issues, contact a professional repairer to replace the seals.
      • If the rod is damaged or the oil leakage cannot be repaired, a new gas lift/hydraulic rod needs to be replaced (the cost is about several dozen yuan).
  4. Replacement Precautions:
    • It is strictly forbidden to disassemble the old gas spring by yourself (it is filled with high-pressure nitrogen inside, and improper operation may cause an explosion).
    • When purchasing a new rod, match the model (such as No. 80 or No. 100) and use tools such as a large pipe wrench for stable installation.

Preventive Measures

Regularly clean the seat rails, avoid spilling sugary drinks or cooking oil, and reduce the risk of seal aging.
