Office Chair Oblique Side

Admin October 22, 2026

The oblique or forward tilt of an office chair to one side may be caused by issues with the wheels, support structure, material aging, or usage habits, requiring targeted repairs.

1. Wheel Issues

If the wheel feet at the bottom of the chair are bent or deformed, it can cause the chair to tilt towards the damaged wheel foot. Inspection Method: Place the chair upright and confirm that all wheel feet are in contact with the ground; invert the chair and observe for any signs of breakage, deformation, or wear on the wheel feet. Repair Recommendations:

  • Damage to the wheel feet is often caused by uneven weight distribution, manufacturing defects, or long-term wear. Replacing a single wheel foot can be difficult, so it is recommended to purchase a complete set of matching wheels for replacement.
  • Contact the manufacturer to provide the model number for ordering original wheel feet, or remove the old wheels and take them to an office supplies store to match replacement sets with the same axle shape and size.

2. Support Structure or Design Defect Issues

Excessive forward tilt of the chair may be due to an imbalance in the support structure or design defects. Common Causes:

  • Loose chassis screws: Most office chairs come with a 5ยฐ-10ยฐ forward tilt angle to accommodate human movement, but loose M8 hex screws at the chassis connections (such as between the five-star base and the seat cushion) can exacerbate the tilt. Repair Method: Tighten the screws with a hex wrench.
  • Failed backrest spring adjustment: If the backrest resistance knob is not properly adjusted, it may cause forward tilt. Repair Method: Rotate the resistance knob clockwise to increase the backrest support force, or contact a professional to inspect and repair the spring system.

3. Material Aging and Deformation Issues

Long-term pressure can cause deformation of nylon chair legs or gas lift cylinders, leading to potential forward tilt hazards. Detection and Repair:

  • Chair leg deformation: Use a level every six months to check the tilt of the chair surface. If the error exceeds 3ยฐ, replace the gas lift cylinder or seat.
  • Gas lift cylinder aging: It is recommended to replace Class 3 gas lift cylinders every 3-5 years. Prioritize choosing accessories with an "SGS" stamp certification to avoid a 40% increased risk of forward tilt due to excessive lifting range (exceeding 4 cm).

4. Usage Habit Impact Issues

Improper use can accelerate chair damage:

  • Weight factor: Users weighing over 90 kg are more likely to cause the chair surface to tilt forward. It is recommended to choose a chair frame with a reinforced bow-shaped chassis.
  • Sitting posture habits: Habitual forward tilting can lead to an imbalance in the three-point force distribution. This can be improved by adding an L-shaped seat support frame or upgrading the thickness of the rear explosion-proof steel plate (from 2 mm to 3 mm).
  • Gas lift cylinder maintenance: Regularly check the lifting function of the gas lift cylinder to avoid tilt caused by insufficient lubrication or internal wear.
