Office Chair Not Rotating

Admin October 11, 2026

If your office chair is not rotating, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

1. Check the wheels

  • Foreign object blockage: Check if the wheels are entangled with paper scraps, hair, or threads. Such foreign objects can hinder wheel rotation. Use tweezers or a fine needle to carefully remove them, avoiding damage to the wheel structure.
  • Wheel damage: Inspect the rubber part for severe wear or cracks. If the wheels are aged, purchase new wheels of the appropriate model and replace them according to the instructions or video tutorials. Pay attention to the specifications of the fixing screws during replacement to avoid stripping.

2. Check the axle condition

  • Axle looseness or rust: If the screws on the wheel axle are loose, tighten them with a screwdriver. If the axle is rusty, first spray a rust remover (such as WD-40) on the rust stains. After the rust has dissolved, drip in lubricating oil (such as sewing machine oil) and rotate the wheels to allow the oil to fully penetrate.
  • Central axle lubrication: Locate the central axle of the swivel chair (usually at the bottom of the seat). Use a syringe or oil pot to inject a small amount of lubricating oil into the axle. After injection, repeatedly rotate the chair body to help the oil spread to the internal friction parts.

3. Check the connectors

  • Loose screws: Check the connecting screws on the armrests and seat, the seat and chassis, the five-claw bracket and the central turntable (bottom screws), and the wheel mounting base. If any are loose, tighten them one by one with a screwdriver, applying moderate force to avoid stripping or structural deformation due to over-tightening.

4. Check the gas cylinder

  • Gas cylinder deformation: Observe if the gas cylinder is bent or leaking. If the gas cylinder is damaged, contact a professional repair technician for replacement. Do not attempt to disassemble it yourself to avoid safety hazards caused by high-pressure gas spraying out.

5. Check the floor condition

  • Floor friction: Move the chair to a flat, smooth floor (such as wooden or tiled floors) to avoid increased wheel rotation resistance on carpets or uneven surfaces. If there are stains on the floor, clean them and then test the rotation effect.

6. Check the turntable bearing

  • Bearing seizure: If the chair rotation is stiff, it may be due to dried-out grease or dust intrusion in the ball bearings inside the base turntable. Aim the spray tube of WD-40 lubricant at the gap between the turntable and the base and lightly spray the lubricant. After it has penetrated, repeatedly rotate the chair body to help the lubricant spread. Wait 5 minutes, wipe off any excess oil, and test if the rotation is smooth.

If none of the above steps work, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer's after-sales service or a professional repair technician for further inspection and repair to avoid damaging the chair structure due to improper operation.
