Office Chair Not Rising

Admin October 13, 2026

There may be multiple reasons why an office chair fails to rise, and the following steps can be used to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

I. Check the Gas Cylinder
The gas cylinder is the core component for adjusting the height of an office chair. It contains high-pressure gas and uses piston movement to adjust the height. If the gas cylinder is damaged (e.g., due to aging of the seal, gas leakage, or wear of internal components), it will lose its supporting force. How to check: Press the seat down with your hand and observe if there is any rebound force. If it does not rebound slowly after pressing, or if you hear a gas leakage sound when pressing, the gas cylinder has failed. In this case, the gas cylinder assembly needs to be replaced. Note: Choose a replacement part that matches the original model to avoid issues with height adjustment or safety hazards due to incompatible specifications.

II. Check the Lift Handle
The handle drives the gas cylinder through a mechanical structure. If the handle is worn, broken, or the connection is loose, the signal cannot be transmitted to the gas cylinder. Steps to check:

  1. Observe the handle for any cracks or deformation;
  2. Try pressing the handle to feel for any significant resistance or sticking;
  3. Check if the connection between the handle and the gas cylinder is loose or detached.
    If the handle is damaged, it can be replaced individually or the entire gas cylinder assembly can be replaced (some models require a complete replacement).

III. Replace the Gas Cylinder Assembly
If the gas cylinder or handle is confirmed to be damaged, it needs to be replaced. Steps for replacement:

  1. Turn the chair upside down so that the bottom is facing up;
  2. Use tools to remove the nuts and clips securing the gas cylinder;
  3. Remove the old gas cylinder and install the new assembly, ensuring a secure connection;
  4. Reassemble the chair and test the height adjustment function.
    Precautions: Wear gloves during replacement to avoid injury from high-pressure gas spray; if you are unfamiliar with the operation, it is recommended to contact a professional.

IV. Seek Professional Repair
If the above methods are ineffective, or if the chair has other complex issues (e.g., internal mechanical components are stuck), it is recommended to contact an authorized after-sales service center or a professional repair company. Advantages: Professionals have the tools and experience to quickly locate and fix the problem, avoiding secondary damage caused by disassembly by unqualified individuals.

V. Daily Maintenance Suggestions

  1. Avoid frequent and excessive height adjustments to reduce wear on the gas cylinder;
  2. Regularly clean the connection between the handle and the gas cylinder to prevent dust buildup that may affect sensitivity;
  3. If the chair is left unused for a long time, it is recommended to press the seat regularly to test the function of the gas cylinder.
