Office Chair Not Moving
Admin October 08, 2026
The following steps can be taken to troubleshoot and resolve the issue of an office chair not moving:

I. Wheel Problems
- Foreign Object Blockage: Check for paper scraps, hair, or threads around the wheels. Use tweezers or a fine brush to clean them and then test the rotation.
- Wheel Damage: If the rubber part is severely worn or cracked, replace it with a wheel of the same specification (pay attention to matching the chair leg size).
- Axle Malfunction:
- Looseness: Tighten the wheel axle fixing screws with a screwdriver.
- Rust: Spray rust remover (such as WD-40) and then drip sewing machine oil or special lubricating oil. Rotate the wheels repeatedly to allow the lubricant to penetrate.
- Floor Factors: Move the chair to a flat and smooth floor (such as wooden floor or tile) to avoid increased friction on carpets or uneven surfaces.
II. Loose Connectors Check the screws at various parts of the swivel chair, focusing on:
- The connection between the armrest and the seat;
- The connection point between the seat and the chassis;
- The screws at the bottom of the five-claw bracket and the central turntable;
- The fixing screws of the wheel mounting base. Tighten them one by one with a screwdriver, avoid over-tightening to prevent screw stripping, and test the chair's stability after tightening.
III. Turntable Bearing Blockage
- Lubrication Treatment:
- Choose white lithium grease (NLGI 2 viscosity grade) or a special swivel chair lubricant.
- Aim the nozzle at the gap between the turntable and the base and spray a small amount of lubricant.
- Rotate the chair body left and right 10 - 15 times repeatedly, wait for 5 minutes for the lubricant to spread.
- Wipe off excess oil stains with a dry cloth to avoid dust adsorption.
- Misconception Avoidance:
- โ Do not use cooking oil (prone to oxidation and clogging) or excessive amounts of grease (will form an abrasive paste).
- โ Avoid directly spraying WD-40 rust remover (will wash away the original grease and aggravate wear).
IV. Gas Lift Malfunction If the gas lift is bent, deformed, or the height adjustment fails:
- Stop Using Immediately: Prevent the risk of gas lift explosion (especially avoid sitting or rotating vigorously).
- Professional Repair: Contact the manufacturer to replace the gas lift. Do not disassemble it yourself (the high-pressure gas inside may cause injury).
Suggested Troubleshooting Order: Check the wheels first โ connectors โ turntable bearing, and finally the gas lift. If the problem is still not resolved, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel to avoid secondary damage or safety hazards due to improper operation.
