Office Chair Non-Rotating
Admin October 13, 2026
If an office chair is not rotating, you can try to solve the problem by checking the wheels, axles, connecting parts, gas cylinders, adjusting the chair's position, and cleaning the wheels.

- Check the wheels: First, see if the wheels are stuck by foreign objects. Common foreign objects such as paper scraps, hair, and threads can hinder wheel rotation. If foreign objects are found, carefully remove them. At the same time, check if the wheels are damaged. If the rubber part is severely worn or has cracks, it means the wheels can no longer be used normally. You need to purchase the same model of wheels that fit the office chair and replace them according to the instructions or online tutorials.
- Check the axles: On one hand, check if the axles of the wheels are loose or rusty. If the screws are loose, use the appropriate tools to tighten them. If the axles are rusty, spray rust remover on them. After the rust is removed, drip in lubricating oil to restore the normal rotation of the axles. On the other hand, find the axle of the swivel chair (usually in the center of the chair). Use a syringe or an oil can to inject an appropriate amount of lubricating oil, such as sewing machine oil, into the axle. After injection, rotate the swivel chair to allow the oil to fully lubricate the inside of the axle, reduce friction, and make the chair rotate flexibly.
- Check the connecting parts: Carefully inspect the screws and other connecting parts at various parts of the swivel chair, such as the connection between the armrests and the seat, and the connection between the seat and the chassis. If any connecting parts are loose, tighten them, but be careful not to overtighten to avoid damaging the parts and affecting the normal use of the chair.
- Check the gas cylinder: Observe whether the gas cylinder is bent or deformed. The gas cylinder is an important part that enables the swivel chair to rise, fall, and rotate. If there is a problem with the gas cylinder, it may cause the chair to rotate inflexibly. In this case, you may need to contact a professional repair person or replace it with a new gas cylinder.
- Adjust the chair's position: The condition of the floor where the chair is placed can also affect wheel rotation. If the floor is uneven or has too much friction, it will make it difficult for the wheels to rotate. Move the chair to a flatter and smoother floor, such as a wooden floor or a tiled floor, to see if it can improve the rotation problem of the swivel chair.
- Clean the wheels: If too much dust and dirt accumulate on the surface of the wheels, it will increase friction and make it difficult for the wheels to rotate. You can use a cleaning agent and a soft cloth to regularly clean the wheels, remove the accumulated dust and dirt, and keep the surface of the wheels clean and smooth.
