Office Chair Non-Adjustable

Admin October 12, 2026

If the office chair is non-adjustable, targeted solutions can be taken according to different fault conditions, as follows:

Backrest Adjustment Failure

  • Check the wired control switch: The wired control switch is a key component for controlling backrest adjustment. If the switch cannot be opened normally and maintain its position, there may be three issues. First, the wired control is loose. In this case, adjust the nut position on the wired control and appropriately lengthen the distance so that the switch can operate stably. Second, the wired control circuit is broken. In this situation, a new wired control needs to be replaced. Third, there is a disconnection problem. Simply re-hang the terminal of the wired control back in place to restore functionality.
  • Check the gas rod connection: When the wired control switch is normal but the backrest still cannot be adjusted, consider the issue of the small gas rod connecting the backrest. Pinch the thin end of the gas rod with your hand and press it. If the gas rod can easily shrink in because it has no gas, it means the gas rod is damaged and needs to be replaced. However, this method is only applicable to chairs where the backrest is connected by a small gas rod. If the chair structure is different, the operation steps need to be adjusted according to the actual situation.
  • Check the control lever: For the situation where the backrest of a computer chair cannot return to its original position after leaning back, usually the backrest tilt is adjusted by the control lever under the seat. If the backrest cannot automatically return to its original position and gets locked after leaning back, it may be that during the backrest leaning process, the control lever was accidentally pushed into the fixing hole, preventing the backrest from returning to its normal position. In this case, simply pull the control lever out again to allow the backrest to return to its place smoothly, and then push the control lever back into the fixing hole.

Height Adjustment Failure

  • Find the hand control device: When sitting in the chair, you can adjust the height by pulling up the corresponding control lever. Some models may require turning a knob. If you are not sure which lever controls the height, read the chair's instruction manual or try pulling up each lever one by one until you find the correct one. When adjusting the seat height, operate gently, moving a few inches (or centimeters) at a time. After adjusting to a comfortable position, move the lever back to its original place. Different models of seats have different operation methods. Some lift the seat by pulling up the lever upwards and lower it by pressing the lever downwards. For pneumatic models, you can pump the lever, that is, repeatedly push it up and down to raise and lower the seat. If you cannot adjust it to the right position, try adjusting from a standing position so that the front end of the chair is just below your knees.
