Office Chair Noise Solution

Admin October 10, 2026

To solve the problem of office chair noise, you can refer to the following methods:

Tighten the office chair's components
The noise from an office chair often stems from loose components, especially the screws at the connection between the seat and the backrest. After long-term use, the screws may gradually loosen due to vibration or stress, leading to structural instability and abnormal noise. Regularly check the tightness of all screws and use a screwdriver or wrench to tighten them one by one, focusing on key areas such as the connection points between the backrest and the seat, and the fixing points of the armrests. If the screws are stripped or damaged, replace them with components of the same specification in a timely manner to ensure a secure installation.

Level the ground
An uneven ground is a common cause of office chair wobbling and abnormal noise. When the chair's casters cannot evenly contact the ground, uneven force distribution can trigger structural friction or metal component collisions. This can be solved by placing anti-slip mats or adjusting the caster height: If the chair's casters are adjustable, raise the short casters to the same height as the others; if they are not adjustable, place cardboard or rubber pads under the short casters to keep the chair level as a whole and reduce wobbling.

Replace aging components
After long-term use, the plastic or metal components of an office chair may develop cracks, deformations, or fractures due to aging, leading to structural looseness and abnormal noise. Check the seat, backrest, armrests, and other parts for obvious damage. If cracks or deformations are found, contact the manufacturer to replace the original components. When choosing components, prioritize high-quality materials that are wear-resistant and anti-aging (such as thickened plastic or metal), which can extend the service life and reduce the risk of abnormal noise.

Add lubricant
The rotating shafts, casters, and lifting rods of an office chair may produce squeaking sounds due to long-term friction. Lubrication is the key to reducing friction: Use a specialized lubricant like WD40 to spray the bearing connections, caster shafts, or lifting rod gaps. After the lubricant penetrates, rotate the components to evenly distribute the lubricant. For specific models like the Sihoo M18 chair, if abnormal noise occurs after sitting for a long time, lay the chair down (place paper sheets under the contact points with the ground to keep it level), and precisely spray the bearing connections (about five places) with WD40 blue can lubricant equipped with a small straw. Let it sit for 5 minutes before restoring use.

Maintenance for specific models
Different models of office chairs may have design differences and require maintenance according to the instruction manual. For example, the abnormal noise of the Sihoo M18 chair often stems from wear at the bearing connections and requires regular lubricant spraying; while the abnormal noise of a pneumatic lifting chair may be due to aging of the internal seals of the gas rod, and a professional should be contacted to replace the gas rod. It is recommended to take photos to record the positions of components before maintenance to avoid the inability to reassemble them correctly after disassembly.
