Office Chair No Recline

Admin October 12, 2026

If you want your office chair not to recline, you can operate and adjust it according to the chair type and adjustment system using the following methods:

  1. Lever Adjustment System
Some office chairs are equipped with a lever-type locking device, usually located on the right or left side under the seat. If the chair supports a recline locking function, you need to find the adjustment lever and confirm its operation direction: Pull the lever upward or push it forward to the locked position, at which point the backrest angle will be fixed and unable to recline further. Before operation, ensure that the backrest is in an upright position to avoid locking failure due to angular deviation. If the lever still cannot be fixed after operation, the locking mechanism may be worn or stuck, and you need to check if the lever connection is loose or if there is any foreign object blocking it.

  2. Knob Adjustment System
For chairs with a knob-type resistance adjustment, locate the resistance adjustment knob near the center of the lower part of the seat close to the support column. By rotating the knob clockwise, you can gradually increase the resistance of the backrest's recline. When the resistance increases to the point where the backrest is difficult to recline, the locking effect is achieved. This method is suitable for scenarios where fine-tuning of the recline resistance is required, but be careful of the rotation range of the knob: Over-tightening may cause the backrest to be completely immobile and even damage the internal spring structure; if the resistance is insufficient, continue rotating until the requirements are met.

  3. Check the Locking Mechanism
Some chairs are designed with an independent tilt locking switch, usually located under the backrest or on the side of the seat. If the chair is not properly locked or the locking mechanism fails, the backrest may recline unexpectedly. When operating, adjust the backrest to the completely upright position and then activate the locking switch (such as pressing a button or sliding the switch). If there is still looseness after locking, the internal spring of the switch may be ineffective or the connecting rod may be deformed, and you need to contact after-sales service for repair or replacement of parts.

  4. Adjust the Usage Status
The user's sitting posture and the flatness of the ground also affect the stability of the backrest. Maintain a correct sitting posture, avoid excessive reclining or shifting of the center of gravity to reduce the force on the backrest; at the same time, ensure that the chair is placed on a flat and hard ground to prevent the chair from wobbling or reclining due to ground depression. If the ground is uneven, you can stabilize the chair by adjusting the height adjustment casters at the bottom of the chair or adding anti-slip pads.
