New Materials for Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

New materials for office chairs mainly include air fiber (also known as air silk) and various modified plastics.

Air fiber, also called air silk, is a novel material applied in the field of office chairs. Its core materials are polyethylene (PE) or polyolefin (POE), and thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPEE) can also be used. These materials undergo a high-temperature melting and spinning process to form a three-dimensional mesh structure. This structure endows air fiber with numerous excellent properties. For example, it has good air permeability, allowing air to flow freely through the mesh structure, effectively avoiding the stuffy feeling caused by long-term use of office chairs and enhancing user comfort. At the same time, it offers outstanding support, being able to provide uniform and stable support according to the distribution of human body pressure, helping to reduce physical fatigue and protect spinal health. In addition, air fiber has excellent elasticity, quickly returning to its original shape after being compressed and being less prone to deformation, thus extending the service life of office chairs.

In terms of the core plastic components of office chairs, various new materials are also applied. For components such as armrests, seats, and backrests, commonly used modified plastics include PA6 - GF30 and PA66 - GF30. These modified plastics significantly improve the strength, rigidity, and heat resistance of the plastics by adding reinforcing materials such as glass fibers, making the components of office chairs more robust and durable, able to withstand high pressure and frequent use. Guangdong Weilifang New Materials Co., Ltd. has also specifically developed a modified material dedicated to office chair armrests. This dedicated modified material is optimized from the source of raw materials, effectively improving injection molding defects such as fiber floatation, whitening under pressure, and shrinkage. Fiber floatation affects the appearance quality of the armrests, causing fiber exposure on the surface. Whitening under pressure occurs when excessive pressure during the injection molding process causes local color lightening. Shrinkage leads to depressions on the surface of the armrests. The application of this dedicated modified material has improved the production quality and yield of office chair armrests, providing strong support for the overall quality improvement of office chairs.
