National Standard Requirements for Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

The current national standards related to office chairs in China mainly include QB/T 2280-2016 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs', QB/T 5618-2021 'Measurement Method for Body Pressure Distribution of Office Chairs', and the standard 'Office Furniture - Reading Tables, Chairs, and Stools' which is currently under revision. The requirements are as follows:

QB/T 2280-2016 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs' is a fundamental and general standard for office chairs, formulated by the China National Light Industry Council and officially implemented in 2016. This standard provides detailed regulations on the classification, technical requirements, and testing methods of office chairs. Among them, the adjustable height range of the seat surface should be no less than 60mm, ensuring that office chairs can accommodate users of different heights and provide a comfortable sitting experience. Additionally, the standard covers safety requirements, such as for Type I office chairs, requiring that the backrest can withstand 100,000 cycles of adjustment without damage, ensuring the stability and durability of office chairs during long-term use.

QB/T 5618-2021 'Measurement Method for Body Pressure Distribution of Office Chairs', published in 2021, primarily standardizes the testing procedures and methods for body pressure distribution on office chairs. Body pressure distribution is an important indicator for measuring the comfort of office chairs. Through scientific testing methods, the pressure distribution on various parts of the human body can be evaluated, providing a basis for the design and improvement of office chairs.

The standard 'Office Furniture - Reading Tables, Chairs, and Stools' applies to furniture used in places such as libraries and archives. This standard is currently under revision, with the revised version removing the indicators for wood materials, strengthening the specifications for size coordination, adjusting the physical and chemical performance indicators, and aligning with the technical requirements for materials and appearance in GB/T 3324 'General Technical Conditions for Wood Furniture'. This revision aims to better meet market demands and improve the applicability and scientific nature of the standard.
