Office Chair Moving and Disassembly
The following steps can be followed for the moving and disassembly of office chairs to ensure safe and efficient operation:

I. Understanding the Structure and Preparing Tools An office chair typically consists of components such as chair legs (star-shaped base), casters, gas lift, base, seat, backrest, armrests, and headrest. Before disassembly, prepare tools including a screwdriver (flat-head/Phillips), Allen wrench (usually included with the chair), rubber mallet (or hammer), pipe wrench, and cloth. If parts are rusty, have WD-40 rust remover and lubricant on hand to assist with the operation.
II. Disassembly Steps
Removing the Headrest and Armrests The headrest and armrests are usually fixed with screws or clips. Use the corresponding screwdriver or Allen wrench to unscrew the fixing screws. For clip structures, gently push or press to unlock. Be sure to keep small parts like screws to avoid losing them.
Separating the Backrest from the Seat The backrest and seat are typically connected by 2-4 larger screws at the back. Use a screwdriver or Allen wrench to remove the screws, and then gently lift the backrest to separate it. If the screws are rusty, spray WD-40 for lubrication before operating.
Separating the Seat from the Gas Lift Turn the chair upside down, hold both sides of the base with your hands, and pull straight up with force to detach the seat along with the base from the gas lift. If the connection is too tight, gently shake the base to assist with separation.
Disassembling the Gas Lift
- Tapping and Vibration Method: Place the star-shaped base upward, and use a rubber mallet to tap evenly around the metal ring where the gas lift connects to the star-shaped base to create a gap between them, and then try to pull it out.
- Rotation and Loosening Method: If tapping doesn't work, use a pipe wrench to grip the gas lift (pad the jaws with cloth to prevent marks), and rotate it forcefully to loosen it and then pull it out.
- Combined Method: First, tap to create a gap, and then use the pipe wrench to rotate; or alternately tap the edges on both sides of the connection to use the reaction force to push it out.
III. Checking and Categorizing Parts Put all small parts such as screws, bolts, and washers into bags or small boxes according to the components and mark their corresponding positions (e.g., "backrest screws", "armrest clips"). Also, check the plastic clips on the base and the connection points of the star-shaped base for cracks or deformation to avoid problems during reassembly.
IV. Precautions If you find it difficult to disassemble the chair by yourself, you can contact a professional moving company (such as Changsha Yongfa Moving and Transportation Service Co., Ltd.), which provides office desk and chair disassembly and assembly services with standardized techniques and reasonable charges. Wear gloves during operation to avoid cuts. When tapping or rotating the gas lift, be mindful of the force to prevent parts from flying and causing injuries.
