Office Chair Moves on Its Own

Admin October 11, 2026

There are mainly two different situations where an office chair 'moves on its own', each with distinct causes and principles.

Smart Dynamic Ergonomic Office Chairs

Some advanced office chairs, such as the Qingxian Dynamic Ergonomic Office Chair, feature automatic adjustment capabilities. They utilize motors and four-link mechanisms to automatically conform to the curvature of the lumbar and spinal regions. This design is based on ergonomic principles, taking into account the changes in spinal shape under different sitting postures. For example, when a user shifts from an upright sitting position to a reclined one, the motor drives the four-link mechanism to adjust the angle and curvature of the chair back accordingly, ensuring continuous and close support for the lumbar and back regions.

Additionally, these chairs offer eye-level, lumbar-back, and armrest tracking functions. The eye-level tracking function ensures that the user's eyes maintain a comfortable relative position to work areas such as computer screens when adjusting their sitting posture, reducing neck and eye fatigue. The lumbar-back tracking function adjusts the support force and angle in real-time based on body movements, providing a seamless experience when switching sitting postures. The armrest tracking function ensures that the armrests naturally conform to the arms, providing good support regardless of arm placement.

Furthermore, these chairs are equipped with a spinal stretching function. Through specific mechanical structures, they moderately stretch the spine over a certain period, relieving pressure caused by prolonged static postures, promoting blood circulation, and enhancing comfort during extended work sessions.

Automatic Elevation Issues with Lifting Chairs

Automatic elevation of lifting chairs is usually due to air rod leakage or malfunction. The core component of modern lifting chairs is the air rod, which is filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas and relies on the pressure difference between two chambers to achieve height adjustment and locking.

When the sealing ring of the air rod ages and wears out, it can lead to chronic leakage of the internal high-pressure nitrogen gas. Alternatively, if impurities enter the air rod, affecting its normal sealing and pressure regulation functions, or if the nitrogen purity is insufficient, it can cause an imbalance in the internal pressure of the air rod. When a person is sitting on the chair, the pressure keeps the chair at a certain height; when the person leaves, the chair loses the downward pressure, and if the internal pressure of the air rod is insufficient to counteract the spring or return force, it will automatically elevate to the highest point under the action of the internal structure, which is a mechanical phenomenon.
