Office Chair Molding
Admin October 08, 2026
The molding process of office chairs is divided into two categories based on material: metal-framed leather chairs and plastic chairs, mainly involving three core stages: frame production, component processing, and assembly and debugging.

Molding Steps for Metal-Framed Leather Office Chairs
- Frame Production: Workers use hydraulic-powered machines to bend steel tubes into the frame for the bottom cushion. The ends are connected by welding steel bars, and a seat adjustment mechanism is installed. The back frame is assembled simultaneously, including components such as the spine and armrest attachments, and is then polished to remove burrs.
- Elastic Support System Installation: S-shaped steel springs are hung from the front to the back of the seat frame to form an elastic support structure. The density and tension of the springs directly affect the comfort and durability of the seat.
- Leather Processing and Cushion Layer Production:
- Leather Cutting: Workers flatten the leather and cut it according to templates to create shapes for the seat cushion, backrest, and other components, avoiding natural flaws and ensuring consistent color and texture.
- Cushion Layer Processing: The cut leather is adhered to a harder foam pad, while a slightly larger foam pad is cut to create the main body of the seat cushion and backrest. The backrest uses a softer, fluffy foam pad, which is cut into connected rectangles and then shaped to conform to the human body's curves through pleated sewing techniques.
- Assembly and Functional Component Installation:
- After wrapping the metal frame with foam pads, the sewn leather cover is placed over it for decoration.
- A cover plate is installed and secured to the frame with screws. Adjustable armrests, hydraulic rods, gas lifts, and seat bottom support rods are assembled to ensure the chair can be freely adjusted in height.
- Finally, seat wheels, headrests, and armrests are installed to complete the overall molding.
Molding Steps for Plastic Office Chairs
- Mold Customization and Injection Molding: Mold manufacturers create injection molds for components such as lumbar support adapters, five-star bases, and armrests based on design requirements. Plastic raw materials are injected into the molds at high temperatures and cooled to obtain the desired shapes of plastic components.
- Component Assembly: The injection-molded plastic components (such as five-star bases and armrests) are connected to metal frames (such as backrest support rods) using screws or clips to form a complete structure.
- Functional Debugging: Components such as gas lifts and wheels are installed, and the stability of functions such as height adjustment and rotation is tested.
Key Process Differences: Metal-framed chairs rely on manual cutting and sewing techniques for leather decoration, while plastic chairs achieve one-time molding of complex shapes through injection molding. The two complement each other in terms of material properties and production efficiency.
