Office Chair Mold Removal

Admin October 11, 2026

Mold removal from office chairs should be carried out based on the material and the degree of mold growth. The specific methods are as follows:

I. General Mold Removal Methods

  1. Ventilation and Airing
Move the chair to a well-ventilated area (such as a balcony or window sill) to accelerate water evaporation through air circulation. Fabrics or mesh materials can be exposed to sunlight for a short period, but prolonged exposure should be avoided to prevent fading or cracking. For wooden chairs, ensure the ambient humidity is below 60% to prevent mold recurrence.
  2. Adsorption and Purification
Place activated carbon packs or sprinkle baking soda around the chair or on the cushion. Leave them for several hours to 48 hours to adsorb odor molecules, then clean up with a vacuum cleaner.
  3. Chemical Neutralization
Wipe the surface with diluted white vinegar water (in a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio) to neutralize alkaline odors and inhibit bacteria. After wiping, use a damp cloth with clean water to wipe again and open windows for ventilation.

II. Material-Specific Treatments

  1. Fabric/Upholstery
    • Removable Covers: Simply remove and machine wash with clean water or hot water as allowed.
    • Non-Removable Upholstered Chairs:
      • Daily Dusting: Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean and pat the cushion to dislodge deep-seated dust.
      • Spot Cleaning: Moisten sweat or stain areas with a damp cloth, then gently wipe with diluted neutral detergent or a specialized upholstery cleaner.
      • Deep Cleaning: Use an upholstery cleaner or steam cleaner for deep cleaning and sterilization. Ensure thorough drying after cleaning.
      • Mold Spot Treatment: If mold spots are found, spray with a specialized mold remover, let it sit for half an hour, then gently brush with a soft-bristled brush and ensure it is dry.
  2. Wooden
    • Mild Mold Growth: Wipe the moldy area with a soft cloth dampened with diluted white vinegar, 75% medical alcohol, or a specialized wood mold remover. Immediately dry the surface water stains after cleaning and use a fan to dry for at least 2 hours.
    • Severe Mold Growth: Wear a mask and gloves, and sand the moldy surface layer of the wood with 80-120 mesh fine sandpaper until clean wood grain is exposed. Spray or apply a specialized wood mold remover before and after sanding, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then wipe. After the treated area is completely dry, apply a wood varnish, wood wax oil, or nano antibacterial mold inhibitor to form a protective layer.
  3. Leather
Avoid using harsh cleaners. Use a specialized leather cleaner to wipe and keep it well-ventilated and dry.

III. Use of Professional Mold Removers

Car interior deodorizing sprays or fabric sterilizing and deodorizing agents available on the market usually contain ingredients that decompose odor molecules. Before use, conduct a small-scale test in an inconspicuous corner of the chair to ensure it does not damage or stain the material, then spray according to the instructions. For specialized mold removers for wooden chairs, pay attention to the mildness of the ingredients and avoid products containing strong oxidizing agents (such as sodium hypochlorite) that may corrode or bleach the wood.
