Office Chair Modification for Kneeling Posture

Admin October 09, 2026

If you want to modify an office chair for a kneeling posture, you can refer to the following design ideas and operational methods:

1. Draw on the design principles of the Sanwa 3WAY posture-correcting chair
This type of kneeling chair guides the body to form a natural S-shaped curve through kneeling. The core is to distribute body weight to the knees and buttocks, reducing lumbar spine pressure. When modifying, you can retain the backrest and base structure of the original office chair and add a kneeling pad module in front of the seat. The kneeling pad should adopt an ergonomic inclined design (usually inclined forward by 10ยฐ-15ยฐ) to make the knees slightly lower than the buttocks, prompting the pelvis to tilt forward naturally and maintaining the physiological curvature of the spine. When assembling, pay attention to the connection method of the short pipes: use 'Screw 2' to fix two short pipes with holes to ensure a firm connection between the kneeling pad and the seat and prevent sliding. After tightening the screws one by one with a wrench, test the load-bearing stability of the kneeling pad to prevent loosening after long-term use.

2. Dynamic support and center-of-gravity adjustment
The key to a kneeling chair is to reduce lumbar spine burden by shifting the center of gravity forward. When modifying, adjust the angle of the original backrest to align with the body's rotation trajectory during kneeling. For example, reduce the backrest inclination angle from the conventional 100ยฐ-110ยฐ to 95ยฐ-100ยฐ and increase the elastic support of the backrest (such as adding an adjustable spring module) so that the backrest can provide dynamic following support when the body leans forward, avoiding a hollow waist. In addition, you can add an anti-slip silicone layer to the surface of the kneeling pad to prevent the knees from sliding and causing posture deformation.

3. Refer to the optimized design of the saddle chair
The saddle chair further optimizes the kneeling experience through an adjustable-angle seat. When modifying, you can draw on its forward-tilting seat design: install a rotatable bracket under the original seat so that the kneeling pad module can tilt forward and backward by 5ยฐ-10ยฐ to adapt to the pelvic forward-tilting needs of users of different heights. If conditions permit, you can add a height adjustment function to the kneeling pad (such as controlling it with a gas rod) so that the height difference between the knees and buttocks can be adjusted to meet personalized comfort needs.

4. Safety and stability verification
After modification, conduct a load-bearing test: simulate normal office scenarios (such as leaning forward to type and briefly leaning back to rest) and check whether there is deformation or abnormal noise at the connection between the kneeling pad and the seat. It is recommended to regularly (every 3 months) check the tightness of the screws to prevent loosening due to long-term vibration. For users with a large body weight, a metal support plate can be added under the kneeling pad to enhance structural strength.
