Office Chair Modeling in Maya
Creating an office chair model in Maya can be achieved through a combination of basic modeling and detailed adjustments. Here are the specific steps:

I. Basic Chair Model Creation
Create the Main Structure Open Maya software and select the Cube tool under Polygons in the menu bar. After unchecking the Interactive Creation option, click on the canvas to generate a cube directly at the center of the grid. Use the Scale Tool (Shortcut: R) to adjust the cube's dimensions to match the approximate proportions of a chair seat.
Add Edge Loops Hold down Ctrl + right-click and select Insert Edge Loop Tool from the pop-up menu. Add 4 edge loops vertically (one each for the front, back, left, and right sides) and 2 edge loops horizontally (one each for the top and bottom) to the cube to increase its subdivision for easier deformation later.
Extrude the Seat Right-click on the model and select Face mode. Hold down Shift and select the 4 faces on the top of the cube. Right-click and choose the Extrude Face tool, then drag the blue arrow downward to extrude the seat thickness. Press Q to end the operation. The basic seat and support structure of the chair are now complete.
II. Backrest and Detail Component Creation
Create the Curved Backrest Create a Cylinder as the main body of the backrest and adjust its Radius and Height parameters in the Channel Box. Press E to rotate the cylinder 90 degrees, then switch to the Animate module and select the Bend tool under Nonlinear in the Create Deformers menu. Adjust the Curvature parameter of the Bend to give the cylinder an ergonomic curved backrest shape.
Create Chair Legs and Support Structures Duplicate the backrest cylinder, reduce its size, and adjust its position to serve as chair legs. Use the Cube tool to create cubes and transform them into leg connectors or crossbeams using the Scale, Rotate (Shortcut: E), and Move (Shortcut: W) tools. For circular components (such as wheel brackets), continue using cylinders and adjust the number of segments (Subdivisions Axis) to optimize smoothness.
Detail Optimization Use the Extrude or Bevel tool to add rounded edges to the model for enhanced realism. Manually adjust the local topology using the Split Polygon Tool to fix any potential intersections or deformations.
III. Model Inspection and Adjustment
After completing the modeling, inspect the model's proportions and structuralๅ็ๆง from multiple perspectives to ensure natural connections between components. Use the Smooth preview function to observe the high-poly effect and, if necessary, return to the low-poly stage to optimize the topology and avoid anomalies during subsequent rendering or animation production.
