Office Chair Model Size

Admin October 10, 2026

The model sizes of office chairs vary depending on their type and design. The following are the common standard size ranges:

1. Seat Height
The seat height of a standard office chair typically ranges from 40 cm to 50 cm, with some fixed models having a seat height of 40 to 45 cm. To accommodate different height requirements, it is advisable to choose a model with adjustable height, usually ranging from 38 to 48 cm. Some sources suggest a standard height of 400โ€”450 mm (i.e., 40โ€”45 cm), but adjustable designs better meet ergonomic needs. Additionally, there should be a 25 to 30 cm drop between the seat and the desk to ensure that the arms can rest naturally without fatigue.

2. Seat Width
The seat width usually ranges from 45 cm to 55 cm, with common fixed dimensions being 450ร—450 mm (length ร— width). This range can meet the needs of most body types; a seat that is too narrow may restrict movement, while one that is too wide may affect sitting stability.

3. Seat Depth
The seat depth generally ranges from 35 cm to 45 cm and should be adjusted according to the length of the user's thighs. A depth that is too shallow will cause the legs to hang, increasing pressure; a depth that is too deep may compress the blood vessels and nerves behind the knees. The ideal depth should allow for a gap of about 2โ€”3 finger widths between the knees and the front edge of the seat when the back is fully against the backrest.

4. Backrest Height
The backrest height varies depending on the type of chair:

  • Medium-back office chairs: The backrest height usually does not exceed the waist, covering the area from the waist to the shoulders, providing basic lumbar support.
  • Executive office chairs: These have a higher backrest with more complex designs, possibly extending to the head or neck, and some models are equipped with adjustable headrests.
  • Special models: Such as those with pillows, can have a total height of up to 120 cm, suitable for scenarios requiring neck support.

Summary: When choosing an office chair, priority should be given to adjustable features (such as height and depth) to accommodate different body types and usage scenarios. Standard size ranges can cover most needs, but specific parameters should be further considered for special body types or functional requirements (such as prolonged sitting or neck support).
