Office Chair Metal Rod

Admin October 08, 2026

The office chair metal rod typically refers to the metal rod at the bottom of the seat, which is a key component connecting the seat legs and the seat base, primarily serving to support and stabilize the seat. Depending on differences in structure and function, office chair metal rods can be classified into the following types:

Single-rod base: Designed with hollow steel tubes, it is lightweight and practical. Its simple structure and small storage space make it suitable for daily office use. This type of base is commonly found in ordinary office chairs, computer chairs, and swivel chairs, meeting basic support needs while facilitating easy movement and repositioning. Due to its light weight, the single-rod base does not leave noticeable scratches on the floor when moved, making it ideal for office environments where seats are frequently adjusted.

Double-rod base: Featuring a dual-barrel structure, it offers significantly better support than the single-rod design. The two metal rods serve different functions: the right rod usually controls seat height adjustment, allowing the user to raise the seat by pulling up and lower it by pressing down; the left rod is responsible for adjusting the backrest recline force, enabling the user to unlock the recline function by pulling up, lock it at the desired angle by pressing down, and some advanced models are equipped with knobs for fine-tuning the recline tension. This design is commonly found in functional seats such as executive chairs, rocking chairs, and massage chairs, meeting the needs of prolonged use or special postures. However, the double-rod base is heavier, requiring careful handling during movement to avoid damaging the floor or causing fatigue.

Key points for maintaining office chair metal rods:

  1. Regular cleaning: Wipe the surface of the metal rod with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt, preventing corrosion and oxidation. Avoid using strongly corrosive cleaners that may damage the metal coating.
  2. Avoid liquid contact: Do not place beverages or other liquids containing chemicals on the bottom of the seat to prevent the liquid from seeping into the metal rod and causing corrosion. If spills occur, immediately absorb the liquid with a dry cloth and clean the area.
  3. Storage environment: Place the seat base on a flat and dry surface, avoiding prolonged exposure to damp, excessively cold, or excessively hot environments. Damp conditions can accelerate metal oxidation, while extreme temperatures may cause material deformation or coating peeling.

By selecting the appropriate base type and following maintenance guidelines, the lifespan of the office chair metal rod can be effectively extended, ensuring seat stability and safety.
