Office Chair Mesh Replacement

Admin October 16, 2026

Replacing the mesh on an office chair requires following steps and paying attention to details, as detailed below:

I. Steps

  1. Prepare Tools and Materials
Gather screwdrivers (Phillips or flat-head), a new mesh surface (measure the original chair's dimensions in advance to ensure a match), spare screws, trim or rubber bands, scissors, etc. Some computer chairs may also require hex wrenches, star screwdrivers, or needle-nose pliers. Choose tools that match the screw types to avoid damage from forced removal.

  2. Remove the Old Mesh

    • Invert or lay the chair on its side on a soft cloth to prevent surface scratches.
    • Peel off the bottom sticker (if covering screws) and use a screwdriver to unscrew the fixing screws. Backrest mesh screws are usually located at the connection between the backrest and seat or on the back frame of the chair.
    • Gently remove the old mesh to avoid scratching your hands or the frame with residual fragments.
  3. Clean the Frame
Wipe the chair frame with a dry cloth to remove dust, adhesive residue, and other debris, ensuring a smooth installation of the new mesh. If the frame has burrs, lightly sand them with sandpaper.

  4. Install the New Mesh

    • Method 1 (Screw Fixing): Cover the frame with the new mesh, align the screw holes, initially fix all screws loosely, adjust the mesh to be wrinkle-free, and then tighten them one by one. Ensure even force is applied, tightening until there is noticeable resistance to avoid cracking plastic parts or damaging threads.
    • Method 2 (Tie Fixing): Spread the mesh evenly over the backrest and seat, and tie it in order with new trim or rubber bands, ensuring moderate tightness (too loose may cause sliding, too tight may tear the mesh).
  5. Check and Test

    • Confirm that the mesh is securely installed without looseness or excessive tightness in any area.
    • Test the chair's stability: gently shake the chair to check for abnormal noises or looseness; sit and test functions such as height adjustment and recline to ensure the mesh does not interfere with the mechanical operation.

II. Precautions

  • Size Matching: The new mesh should match the original chair's dimensions to avoid installation difficulties or discomfort.
  • Tool Use: Avoid scratching the chair surface with sharp tools; use plastic pry bars or fingers for assistance during disassembly when possible.
  • Professional Assistance: If unfamiliar with the steps or if the chair has a complex structure (e.g., gas lift, linkage mechanism), it is advisable to contact after-sales service or a professional repair person.
  • Aesthetics: Choose a product with a color and material similar to the original mesh to maintain overall harmony.

By following standard procedures, you can extend the lifespan of your office chair and enhance the user experience. If aging components (e.g., stripped screws, frame fractures) are discovered during the process, replace the corresponding parts simultaneously.
