Differentiation of Office Chair Mesh

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chair mesh can be differentiated mainly based on structure, purpose, technological origin, and material:

I. Differentiation by Structure and Purpose

  1. Single-layer and Double-layer Mesh: Single-layer mesh has a single-layer structure and is mostly used for backrests. It is low-cost and provides basic breathability and support. Double-layer mesh consists of two stacked layers and is mostly used for seat cushions. It disperses pressure by increasing softness and enhances durability. Both technologies are mature and commonly found in low-end office chairs.
  2. Special Mesh: Despite its single-layer structure, special mesh can withstand significant pressure on seat cushions and can be used for both backrests and seat cushions, offering flexible design options. The technology originally came from Matrex in the United States and Wintex in South Korea, and was later localized by Taiwanese and domestic companies, reducing the price to less than one-third of the imported version. Domestic improved variants include flocked special mesh (skin-friendly and soft) and dragon-pattern special mesh (upgraded weaving process with higher density and greater strength).

II. Differentiation by Material

  1. Polyester Fiber Mesh (Standard Office Model): Made of 100% pure polyester fiber, it is low-cost, wear-resistant, and easy to clean, but has weak elasticity and average breathability. Prolonged sitting can cause heat buildup, rapid rebound decay, and sagging or indentation within 1-2 years. It is commonly found in basic models priced under 1,000 yuan and is suitable for temporary office settings in small and micro enterprises.
  2. High-elastic Nylon Mesh (Mid-to-high-end Mainstream): A blend of nylon (30%-50%) and polyester fiber, it combines elasticity and toughness, quickly rebounding after stretching. It offers excellent breathability and heat dissipation, is tear-resistant and wear-resistant, and meets national standards. It is the preferred choice for regular procurement by medium and large enterprises.
  3. Imported Special Mesh (High-end Engineering Model): Based on imported high-elastic nylon, it is blended with high-elastic elastic yarn and 5%-10% spandex, with a weaving density and fiber purity far exceeding domestic products. It passes the BIFMA X5.1 international durability standard, withstanding 300,000 cycles of compression without deformation. It is resistant to aging and can withstand high and low temperatures, remaining intact without loosening or damage for more than 5 years of normal use. It is mostly used in high-end engineering projects for government and enterprises.
  4. Recycled Material Blended Mesh (Low-quality Trap): Made from processed waste materials, it is of low quality, prone to breakage and deformation, and poses health risks. It should be avoided when making purchases.

III. Correlation Between Price and Applicable Scenarios
Low-end office chairs mostly use single-layer mesh, double-layer mesh, or polyester fiber mesh, which are low-cost but have limited durability. Mid-to-high-end products mainly feature special mesh or high-elastic nylon mesh, balancing comfort and cost-effectiveness. High-end engineering models rely on imported special mesh to meet long-term high-intensity use requirements.
