What Are the Differences Between Office Chair Mesh Fabrics

Admin October 08, 2026

The differences between office chair mesh fabrics are mainly reflected in aspects such as type, material and craftsmanship, and mechanical properties.

Type Differences

Single-layer mesh and double-layer mesh are commonly used in low-end office chairs. Single-layer mesh has a simple structure and low cost. It is mostly used for backrest cushions, providing basic breathability and support. Double-layer mesh is often used for seat cushions. It consists of two layers of mesh fabric stacked together, increasing softness and comfort, dispersing seat cushion pressure, and improving durability. Special mesh is a popular choice for mid-range mesh chairs. Although it has a single-layer structure, it can withstand significant pressure on the seat cushion and has a flexible design, making it suitable for both backrest and seat cushions.

Material and Craftsmanship Differences

  • Dragon-pattern special mesh: It employs a high-density nylon wire weaving process, featuring a double-layer structure with a dragon-pattern texture. The craftsmanship is mature, and the cost is relatively low, focusing on durability and hard support.
  • U-mesh fabric: It uses a criss-cross weaving method and incorporates TPE elastomers to form a four-way stretch structure. The craftsmanship is similar to that of early MATREX products, achieving a balance between elasticity and a sense of enclosure, with relatively outstanding cost-effectiveness.
  • MATREX fabric: It uses a patented polyester-based elastomer special material and is made through a jacquard weaving process. It contains fluorescent anti-counterfeiting threads, has passed BIFMA certification, and is equipped with an exclusive laser tag. Matrex Quantum 4.0 also uses an innovative T-shaped mesh structure, eliminating the rough characteristics of traditional nylon mesh fabric, with greater elastomer tension and denser weaving.

Mechanical Property Differences

According to standard test data, the air permeability of polymer elastic mesh fabric should reach โ‰ฅ300mm/s, and the tensile strength should be โ‰ฅ800N/5cm, while the tensile strength of ordinary mesh fabric usually only reaches โ‰ค400N/5cm. Matrex Quantum 4.0 has an abrasion resistance of over 50,000 wear tests, meets the CA117-Section E standard for flame retardancy, has a lightfastness rating of 5 (over 40 hours of light exposure), a rubbing fastness of 4.5 in the wet state and 5 in the dry state, and has passed the BS 5852: e4-12.4 part standard certification. From impact test data, there is a clear gradient in the fatigue resistance of the three types of mesh fabric: Dragon-pattern special mesh is about 60,000-80,000 times, U-mesh fabric is about 80,000-100,000 times, and MATREX fabric reaches over 120,000 times.
