Office Chair Material Review
Each common material for office chairs has its own advantages and disadvantages, and a comprehensive choice should be made based on the usage scenario and requirements. The following is an evaluation of common materials from the dimensions of breathability, durability, comfort, and maintenance cost:

Mesh fabric material: Mainly composed of polyester fiber blended with nylon fiber, it has excellent breathability. The mesh structure can accelerate air circulation, preventing heat buildup and sweating during long sitting, especially suitable for summer or environments without air conditioning. High-quality high-elastic mesh fabric also has good support, a smooth surface that is easy to clean, and a stable structure that is not easily deformed. However, its load-bearing capacity is moderate, and it is prone to being damaged by sharp objects snagging the threads, so it should be kept away from hard objects such as keys and zippers.
High-density foam + fabric cover: Wrapped with knitted fabric, suede, or PU leather, it fits the body's curves well, providing a strong sense of enclosure and high comfort. High-density foam is highly durable and does not easily collapse after long sitting, making it suitable for scenarios that require long hours of desk work. However, its breathability is poor, and it can get hot in summer. Cleaning requires removing the cover, resulting in a slightly higher maintenance cost.
PU leather: It is wear-resistant, dirt-resistant, waterproof, and splash-proof, making it easy to clean and suitable for dusty or easily soiled environments. However, its breathability is poor, and it can cause sweating during long sitting in summer. It becomes hard and brittle at low temperatures and is prone to cracking under long-term exposure to sunlight, so it should be kept away from direct sunlight.
Genuine leather (top-grain/split-grain cowhide): It has a high-end texture, excellent breathability and comfort, and high durability, making it suitable for high-end business scenarios. However, it is expensive, requires regular oiling to prevent drying and cracking, is not scratch-resistant, is prone to mildew when damp, and has an extremely high maintenance cost.
Breathable cotton + mesh combination: It combines the breathability of mesh fabric with the enclosing feel of foam, providing balanced performance and is suitable for users with high comfort requirements. However, its price is relatively high, and it is usually used in high-end office chairs. The cost-effectiveness needs to be evaluated in combination with the budget.
Leather material (genuine leather, faux leather): It has a soft and delicate touch and a high-end appearance, making it suitable for business office scenarios. However, its breathability is weak, and it can get hot and sweaty in summer. It requires regular maintenance and cleaning and should be kept away from sharp object scratches and long-term sun exposure to prevent aging and cracking.
Summary: Choose mesh fabric for breathability; choose high-density foam for a sense of enclosure and durability; choose PU leather for easy cleaning; choose genuine leather if the budget is sufficient and you pursue texture; choose the breathable cotton + mesh combination for balanced performance; leather material can be chosen for business scenarios, but attention should be paid to maintenance.
