English Translations for Office Chair Materials

Admin October 09, 2026

The English expressions for common materials used in office chairs are as follows:

Office chairs are made from a variety of materials, with different parts and functional requirements necessitating the use of different materials. For basic frames or support structures, common materials include wood, often used for chair legs and backrest frames, with its natural texture and stability making it a popular choice for traditional office chairs; steel, frequently used for chair feet, five-star bases, or gas lift rods and other load-bearing components, meeting the support needs of modern office chairs with its high strength and durability; and paint, used as a surface treatment material for wooden or metal parts, protecting the material while enhancing aesthetics with different colors.

For soft-structure office chairs (such as seat cushions and backrests), the fabric materials are collectively referred to as Furniture fabric material, with specific subdivisions as follows:

  • Leather: Made from natural animal hides that have been tanned and processed, it is breathable, soft to the touch, and durable, commonly found in high-end office chairs, but it is relatively expensive and requires regular maintenance.
  • Artificial Leather/Synthetic Leather: Chemically synthesized to mimic the appearance and performance of leather, it is less expensive than genuine leather and has waterproof and easy-to-clean properties, making it a common choice for mid-range office chairs.
  • Fabric: Woven from fibers such as cotton, linen, and polyester, it is breathable, comfortable to the touch, and can meet diverse aesthetic needs through pattern design, but it is slightly more difficult to clean than leather materials.

It should be noted that some office chairs may use composite materials (such as a combination of plastic and metal) or new eco-friendly materials (such as recycled plastic or bamboo), and these materials should be translated according to their specific components. For example, plastic parts can be translated as plastic, and bamboo can be translated as bamboo. If the material has special functions (such as fire resistance or anti-static properties), functional terms should be added to the description, such as fire-retardant fabric or anti-static leather.

The choice of materials directly affects the comfort, durability, and cost of office chairs. Understanding their English expressions helps facilitate accurate communication of needs during the procurement or design process.
