Office Chair Materials
Admin October 09, 2026
The materials of office chairs mainly include two categories: upholstery and structural components. Different materials have distinct characteristics and are suitable for various scenarios.

I. Common Upholstery Materials
- Mesh Fabric
Mesh fabric is a widely used breathable upholstery material in office chairs, with its core advantage being excellent breathability. It effectively reduces the stuffy feeling caused by prolonged sitting, making it particularly suitable for summer or high-temperature environments. Depending on the craftsmanship and material differences, mesh fabric can be further divided into:
- High-quality Mesh Fabric: A basic type of mesh fabric that balances breathability and durability, with moderate costs;
- Technological Mesh Fabric (e.g., NanoFlex4.0): Enhances elasticity and support through special weaving techniques, maintaining its shape well even after prolonged sitting;
- Flocked Mesh Fabric (e.g., Italian imported flocked mesh fabric, dragon-pattern mesh fabric): Covered with fine fuzz on the surface, offering a soft touch and combining breathability with comfort;
- DuPont Bounce Technological Mesh Threads: Made of highly elastic fibers, providing strong resilience and dynamically conforming to body curves.
- Leather
Leather upholstery is renowned for its abrasion resistance and ease of cleaning, often used in high-end office environments or executive chairs. Based on the material source, it can be divided into:
- PU Leather: Artificial leather with lower costs, a smooth surface, but relatively weak breathability, prone to cracking after long-term use;
- Genuine Leather: Natural animal leather (e.g., cowhide), featuring a natural fiber structure, superior breathability to PU leather, and better extensibility and resilience. It gradually adapts to the body shape over time, providing more tailored support.
- Velvet Fabric
Velvet fabric offers a soft and skin-friendly touch, suitable for scenarios prioritizing comfort. However, it requires more attention to cleaning difficulties and tends to attract dust in humid environments, necessitating regular maintenance.
II. Structural Component Materials
The frame, base, and legs of office chairs need to bear the weight of the human body, so high-strength materials are often used to ensure stability:
- Metal (e.g., aluminum alloy): High strength and corrosion resistance, commonly used for chair legs or frames, suitable for scenarios requiring frequent movement or heavy loads;
- High-strength Engineering Plastics: Lightweight and cost-effective, while possessing sufficient load-bearing capacity, commonly found in chair legs or bases, suitable for general office environments.
Summary: The selection of office chair materials should comprehensively consider usage scenarios, comfort, and durability. Mesh fabric is suitable for scenarios with high breathability requirements, leather for high-end or easy-to-clean needs, and velvet for comfort-focused scenarios. Structural components primarily use metal or engineering plastics to ensure safety and stability.
