Office Chair Material Distinction
Admin October 10, 2026
The materials of office chairs can be distinguished from four aspects: frame, fabric, filling, and accessories. Different materials vary in performance, cost, and applicable scenarios.

Frame Materials
- Solid Wood: A natural material with an elegant appearance and durability, but it is relatively expensive and heavy, making it inconvenient to move. It is suitable for scenarios where texture is pursued and frequent movement is not required.
- Nylon/PP: Both are plastic materials, lightweight and wear-resistant, with a relatively low price. Nylon is suitable for carpeted environments, while PP offers a wider range of color options. However, their long-term load-bearing capacity is weaker than that of metal.
- Aluminum Alloy: Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, with the best durability, but the highest cost. It is suitable for high-end or high-frequency use scenarios.
- Steel: Sturdy and durable with a low price, but the surface coating is prone to wear and rust, requiring regular maintenance.
- Metal Frame (Steel/Aluminum Alloy): Strong load-bearing capacity, no abnormal noise during long-term use, suitable for users with high stability requirements.
- Plastic Frame: Low cost, can be designed with complex curves, but its stability and load-bearing limit are generally weaker than those of metal, and it is prone to aging under heavy pressure.
Fabric Materials
- Genuine Leather: High-grade, breathable, and wear-resistant, but requires maintenance and is prone to fading when damp. It is suitable for environments with sufficient budget and a focus on texture.
- Artificial Leather/PU Leather: Economical and practical, waterproof and easy to clean, but with poor breathability and a relatively short lifespan. It is suitable for short-term or low-frequency use.
- Mesh Fabric: Extremely breathable, comfortable in summer, but with poor wear resistance and prone to bacterial growth. 3D mesh fabric has relatively weak support and requires attention to resilience.
- Suede Leather: Soft and delicate, breathable and wear-resistant, but requires regular care and is prone to fading when damp. It is suitable for dry environments.
- Cloth: Low price, diverse patterns, but with poor compression and wear resistance, and prone to static electricity. It is suitable for temporary or low-intensity use scenarios.
Filling Materials
- Sponge: Cost-effective, high-density sponge has strong support, and high-rebound sponge provides a Q-bounce sitting feeling, with strong adaptability.
- Memory Foam: Its slow rebound characteristic can conform to the body's curves and disperse pressure, suitable for long periods of fixed postures, but it is expensive and hardens at low temperatures.
Accessories and Other Materials
- Casters: Nylon casters are suitable for carpets, and PU casters are quiet and protect wooden floors. Selection should be based on the floor type.
- Gas Lift: It is essential to choose steel products that have passed safety certifications such as SGS and BIFMA to ensure the safety and reliability of the lifting function.
