Office Chair Material Classification
Admin October 22, 2026
The materials of office chairs can be mainly divided into two categories: frame materials and upholstery materials.

Frame Materials
- Solid Wood: Office chairs with solid wood frames have an elegant appearance and excellent durability, adding a touch of nature and warmth to the office environment. However, solid wood is relatively expensive and heavy, making it difficult to move. It is suitable for office scenarios where the chair is fixed in a specific position.
- Nylon: Nylon-framed office chairs are lightweight and wear-resistant, with a relatively low price. These chairs are suitable for office environments that require frequent movement, such as open-plan offices or meeting rooms, meeting the needs of employees to switch between different workstations flexibly.
- Aluminum Alloy: Office chairs with aluminum alloy frames combine the advantages of being lightweight and corrosion-resistant, offering the best durability, but they are also the most expensive. They are suitable for office spaces with high requirements for chair quality and service life, such as executive offices or important meeting rooms.
- Steel: Steel-framed office chairs are sturdy and durable, with a low price. However, the electroplated coating on their surface is prone to wear. Once the coating is damaged, the internal material will oxidize and rust, affecting the chair's service life and aesthetics.
- PP (Polypropylene): PP-framed office chairs are lightweight, wear-resistant, and relatively inexpensive, with a wide range of color options to meet the decorative needs of different office environments.
Upholstery Materials
- Genuine Leather: Genuine leather is a high-end upholstery material for office chairs, featuring breathability and wear resistance, providing users with a comfortable sitting experience. However, genuine leather is expensive and requires regular maintenance; otherwise, it is prone to cracking and fading.
- Faux Leather: Faux leather upholstery is cost-effective and resistant to moisture and fading. However, its breathability is poor, and prolonged use may make users feel hot and uncomfortable, and it is also prone to static electricity.
- Mesh Fabric: Mesh fabric upholstery has good breathability, making users feel cool and comfortable in summer. However, its wear resistance is poor and it is easily scratched by sharp objects.
- Suede Leather: Suede leather is soft and comfortable, with certain breathability and wear resistance. However, it requires regular care; otherwise, it is prone to accumulating dust and stains.
- Fabric: Fabric is inexpensive, with a wide variety of patterns and easy to clean. However, its compressive and wear resistance are poor, and it is prone to deformation and wear after prolonged use.
- PU Leather: PU leather is breathable and waterproof, not prone to fading, and affordable. However, its durability is slightly inferior to genuine leather, and it requires maintenance during use.
