Office Chair Material Analysis
The materials of office chairs mainly include four categories: seat surface, frame, filler, and accessories. The performance differences of different materials directly affect the user experience and applicable scenarios.

Seat surface materials are the parts that come into direct contact with the human body. Common types include mesh fabric and leather (including PU leather/artificial leather). Mesh fabric, represented by 3D mesh fabric, has excellent breathability, can quickly dissipate heat and moisture, and is suitable for long-term sitting or summer use. However, its support is relatively weak, and attention should be paid to the weaving density and resilience. Leather (including PU leather/artificial leather) provides a high-end texture and a sense of enclosure. It has a formal appearance and a smooth surface that is easy to clean. However, its breathability is poor, and it can easily become stuffy in summer or non-air-conditioned environments. Among them, PU leather and artificial leather are superior to genuine leather in terms of durability and cost.
Frame materials are the core structures that support the seat surface and the weight of the human body. They are mainly divided into two categories: metal and plastic. Metal frames are usually made of steel or aluminum alloy. They are sturdy, durable, and have strong load-bearing capacity. They are suitable for high-frequency use scenarios and do not have obvious abnormal noises or shaking during long-term use. Plastic frames have the advantages of being lightweight and low-cost. They are easy to form complex curves through molds. High-quality engineering plastics are wear-resistant and stain-resistant. However, their long-term stability and load-bearing limit are usually not as good as those of metal, and they may undergo creep under long-term heating or stress. Thickened design can delay this process.
Filler materials directly affect the comfort of sitting. Common types include sponge and memory foam. Sponge is a universal choice, divided into ordinary sponge, high-density sponge (with better support), and high-resilience sponge (with a bouncy sitting feel). It has strong adaptability and high cost-effectiveness. Memory foam (slow-rebound sponge) can be shaped according to the human body's shape and temperature, providing personalized support and dispersing pressure points. It is suitable for long-term fixed postures. However, it is relatively expensive and may become hard in low-temperature environments.
Among accessories and other materials, casters should be selected according to the type of floor: nylon casters are suitable for carpets and slide smoothly; PU casters are soft and quiet and can protect wooden floors. Gas lift rods, as the core components for height adjustment, should be steel products that have passed safety certifications such as SGS and BIFMA to ensure safety during use. In addition, the design of the seat surface shape also affects the experience. Curved or concave designs can better disperse pressure, while straight edges may compress the back of the thighs.
