Office Chair Manufacturing and Testing
Admin October 16, 2026
Office chair manufacturing and testing cover multiple aspects, including core components, finished product performance, and material environmental safety and security. It requires standardized processes, professional equipment, and strict standards to ensure quality and safety.

Testing Scope
- Core Components: The stability of the lifting function and the anti-burst performance of the gas spring need to be tested; the load-bearing capacity and impact resistance of the five-star base need to be verified; the reclining and rebound functions of the chassis need to be tested; the smoothness of sliding and wear resistance of the casters need to be evaluated; and strength and fatigue tests need to be conducted on the armrests.
- Comprehensive Performance of Finished Products: Stability tests need to simulate actions such as leaning forward, leaning backward, and sitting sideways, applying specified force values (e.g., the backrest withstands 600N) to prevent tipping over; strength tests include static load (e.g., the seat surface withstands a static pressure of 136kg) and impact tests; durability tests need to simulate more than 100,000 cycles of sitting, standing up, and reclining on a fatigue testing machine; and flame-retardancy tests need to ensure that the fabric and filling meet fire safety standards.
- Material Environmental Safety and Security: The release amounts of harmful substances such as formaldehyde, total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), and heavy metals need to be tested. Air samples are collected through an environmental chamber for concentration analysis to ensure compliance with indoor air quality requirements.
Testing Methods and Procedures
- Pretreatment: Samples are placed in a standard temperature and humidity environment (23ยฑ2โ, 50ยฑ10%RH) for 24 hours to eliminate environmental interference.
- Mechanical Testing: A mechanical performance testing machine is used to apply specified force values to test stability and strength; durability tests simulate long-term use through a multi-functional durability testing machine, with force value accuracy reaching ยฑ1%.
- Specialized Component Testing: The gas spring needs to undergo high and low-temperature tests, cyclic durability tests, and pressure-resistant anti-burst tests; the five-star base needs to undergo static pressure tests (e.g., withstanding a pressure of 1100kg) and drop tests; the casters need to be tested for wear resistance and rolling resistance.
- Environmental Testing: The entire chair or materials are placed in an environmental climate chamber, and harmful substances such as formaldehyde and TVOC are precisely analyzed using a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instrument.
Testing Standards
The BIFMA standard is an internationally authoritative testing system. Its testing content covers backrest static stretching (withstanding a large pulling force at a 70ยฐ angle), backrest endurance cycling (simulating usage scenarios for heavy individuals), durability of armrests and gas rods, impact resistance of chair feet, etc. Products that pass this standard need to be labeled as compliant, representing higher safety and durability.
