Manual Disassembly of Office Chair

Admin October 19, 2026

Manual disassembly of an office chair should be done with caution, and it is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Separation of the Seat and the Gas Cylinder

  1. Detach the Backrest: If the backrest is detachable, first loosen the screws or clips to separate it from the seat, creating space for subsequent operations.
  2. Adjust the Height of the Gas Cylinder: Raise the gas cylinder to its highest position to release internal pressure and reduce disassembly resistance.
  3. Operate the Lever:
    • Standard Method: Hold the seat firmly with one hand and press the lever (usually located beneath the seat) with the other hand while gently rocking the seat to separate it from the gas cylinder using leverage.
    • User Feedback Optimization: Some users find that pressing the lever downward and backward (with the arm passing beneath the seat, pulling the lever backward, and the forearm supporting the bottom of the seat), combined with rocking and lifting, makes it easier to pull out. Be mindful of the force applied to avoid damaging the lever.

II. Separation of the Gas Cylinder and the Chair Base

  1. Invert the Chair Base: Place the chair base upside down on a stable surface to ensure safety during operation.
  2. Use a Tool to Tap:
    • Recommended Tool: Tap the connection between the gas cylinder and the chair base vertically with a rubber mallet, using elastic impact force to separate the components. If a rubber mallet is not available, place a piece of wood beneath and tap with a regular hammer to avoid deforming the chair base.
    • Tap in Stages: If the connection is tight, tap lightly multiple times to avoid bending the gas cylinder or breaking the chair base due to excessive force.
  3. Handle Rusty Components: If the bracket is severely rusted, first spray a loosening agent (such as WD-40) to soak the rust layer, wait 5-10 minutes, and then tap to significantly reduce disassembly difficulty.
  4. Protect Your Hands: Wear anti-slip gloves when tapping to prevent hand slippage or cuts from metal debris.

III. Disassembly of Other Parts

Parts such as the backrest, armrests, and headrest are usually fixed with screws. Reverse the installation order for disassembly:

  1. Loosen the Screws: Use a screwdriver or wrench of the corresponding size to loosen the connecting screws of each part one by one.
  2. Separate the Parts: After the screws are fully loosened, gently lift or rock the parts to separate them from the main body. If there are clips, press them to release before disassembly.

Precautions:

  • Take photos of the entire chair and the connections of each part before disassembly for reference during reassembly.
  • Keep the working environment clean to avoid losing small parts.
  • If you encounter stubborn connections or abnormal resistance during disassembly, stop the operation and consult a professional to prevent damage to the chair structure or personal injury.
