Office Chair Manual Adjustment
Admin October 12, 2026
Manual adjustment of office chairs typically involves adjusting the recline, height, and other functions. Here are the specific methods:

Recline Adjustment
Lever Adjustment System:
- Locate the adjustment lever on the right or left side beneath the seat. Gently pull up or push down to release the lock.
- Lean back, adjusting your weight, and simultaneously adjust the lever to achieve a comfortable backrest angle. If you need to lock the angle, operate the lever again to secure the position.
- Note: Ensure the chair's center of gravity is stable during adjustment to prevent tipping over due to excessive recline.
Knob Adjustment System:
- Find the knob at the center beneath the seat. Turn it clockwise to increase recline resistance (suitable for heavier individuals) and counterclockwise to decrease resistance (suitable for lighter individuals).
- Some chairs require a separate knob to adjust the recline angle. Refer to the product manual for specific instructions.
Recline Tension and Angle Lock:
- Adjust the cylindrical knob on the base: Turn it clockwise to increase support force (preventing rapid recline) and counterclockwise to decrease support force (for easy recline).
- Pull out the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion to recline freely, and push it back to lock the angle. To return to an upright position, pull out the lever and gently push the backrest.
Height Adjustment
Locate the Control:
- While seated, pull up the control lever beneath the seat or turn the knob to adjust the height. If unsure of the location, read the manual or try pulling the lever.
- For pneumatic lift models, repeatedly pump the lever (up and down) to raise or lower the seat until the desired height is reached.
Adjust to a Comfortable Position:
- Move the seat to a height where your feet rest flat on the floor and your knees are aligned with the front edge of the chair, avoiding leg suspension or pressure.
- Maintain eye level with the monitor when working on a computer, and keep your elbows at the same height as the desk when working at a desk to reduce shoulder and neck strain.
Other Adjustment Functions
- Headrest Adjustment: Some chairs (such as ergonomic chairs) support raising or lowering the headrest or sliding it forward and backward to fit the curve of your neck.
- Armrest Adjustment: If the chair has adjustable armrests, you can raise or lower the height or rotate them left and right to avoid obstructing your knees from sliding under the desk.
Precautions
- When adjusting the recline angle, ensure the chair is on a stable surface to prevent tipping due to a shift in the center of gravity.
- For long-term use, it is recommended to change your sitting position every 15-30 minutes. If the chair is too high, use a footrest to maintain proper blood circulation.
- Specific operations may vary slightly depending on the chair model. Always refer to the product manual or contact the manufacturer for confirmation first.
