Office Chair Maintenance Tips

Admin October 22, 2026

The maintenance tips for office chairs mainly include two aspects: daily care and regular maintenance, as detailed below:

Daily Care

  • Surface Cleaning:
    • Mesh/Fabric Seat Surfaces: Use a vacuum cleaner or soft brush to remove dust weekly, paying special attention to debris in the seams. For stains, dilute a neutral cleaner and gently wipe with a soft cloth, then dry with a dry cloth to prevent liquid penetration and mold.
    • Leather Seat Surfaces: Wipe away dust daily with a dry, soft cloth. Clean sweat and oil stains weekly with a slightly damp cloth. Apply a specialized leather conditioner every quarter to prevent cracking and fading.
    • Plastic/Metal Frames: Wipe stains with a damp cloth soaked in soapy water, then dry with a dry cloth to prevent water spots. For minor rust on metal, wipe with white vinegar, let sit for 5 minutes, then wipe clean.
  • Usage Habits:
    • Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on the armrests or seat to prevent deformation and dents. Move the chair gently to avoid hitting walls or table corners.
    • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially for leather and fabric seats, to prevent material aging and fading. Pat the pressed areas after prolonged sitting to reduce dents.
    • Keep your center of gravity centered on the gas lift rod for smooth height adjustment. Never sit on the armrests or place heavy objects on them to prevent damage.
    • Keep genuine leather chairs away from heat sources and strong light to prevent aging from sun exposure.

Regular Maintenance

  • Lubrication of Adjustment Systems:
    • Gas Lift Rods: When the height adjustment is stuck, apply 1-2 drops of silicone oil at the connection point and adjust repeatedly to ensure even lubrication. Avoid using cooking oil.
    • Tilt/Recline Systems: When the adjustment resistance is high, open the chassis cover and apply grease to the gears and springs to ensure smooth recline.
    • Armrest Adjustments: If the height or forward/backward adjustments are stiff, disassemble the cover and spray lubricant on the adjustment rod and slots to restore flexibility.
  • Tightening of Connecting Components: Regularly check the screws or clips connecting the seat to the gas lift rod, the chassis to the gas lift rod, the armrests to the seat, and the five-star base to the gas lift rod. Tighten any loose components promptly; replace screws with stripped threads with new ones of the same specification.
  • Other Maintenance:
    • Check for loose springs and knobs, and adjust the tension according to your weight to ensure the chair back returns smoothly. Tighten any loose screws after prolonged use.
    • Avoid scrubbing vigorously during cleaning. For genuine leather chairs, wipe with 40%-50% soapy water or laundry detergent solution, rinse with clean water, and dry. Never use harsh cleaning agents (such as abrasive cleaners, turpentine, or gasoline).
    • Follow the instruction manual for regular maintenance to extend the chair's lifespan.
