Office Chair Maintenance Methods
Admin October 11, 2026
Office chair maintenance requires a comprehensive approach, covering handling, usage, cleaning, and upkeep. Scientific operation can extend the chair's lifespan and ensure a healthy sitting posture.

I. Daily Use and Maintenance
- Handle with care, avoid collisions: Lift the office chair when moving it. Do not drag or bump it against hard objects to prevent deformation or breakage of components such as the gas lift and chair legs.
- Distribute sitting pressure, reduce indentations: After prolonged sitting, gently pat the pressed areas and their edges to help restore their shape. Avoid concentrating pressure on the same area for extended periods to prevent permanent deformation of the foam or mesh fabric.
- Maintain a stable center of gravity, conduct regular checks: Keep the center of gravity centered on the gas lift during use to ensure smooth height adjustment. Check monthly for loose screws, springs, and knobs. Adjust the backrest tension according to your weight for smooth repositioning.
- Prohibit overloading, protect the structure: Do not sit on the armrests or place heavy objects on them to prevent the gas lift and chair legs from breaking or deforming due to overload.
- Regular maintenance, extend lifespan: Perform professional maintenance as per the instructions, such as lubricating the gas lift and tightening connectors, to prevent component aging.
II. Environment and Cleaning Management
- Avoid direct sunlight, prevent aging: Keep the chair away from direct sunlight or high-temperature environments to prevent hydrogen embrittlement of plastic parts, fading of leather, or cracking of solid wood.
- Clean by category, use appropriate methods:
- Genuine leather chairs: Gently wipe with a slightly damp cloth dipped in soapy water (40%-50% water content). Rinse with clean water and dry. Avoid harsh cleaners (such as turpentine or gasoline).
- Fabric chairs: Spray with a cleaner and gently wipe. For stubborn stains, treat with warm water combined with a cleaner. Do not scrub vigorously with a hard brush.
- Solid wood chair legs: Wipe with a dry cloth and then apply a cleaner. Avoid wiping with a damp cloth or exposing to direct sunlight.
- Faux leather chairs: Test for color fading in an inconspicuous area before cleaning. For heavily soiled chairs, use slightly warm water and air dry naturally.
- Mesh chairs: Wipe with clean water and then use a slightly damp cloth to handle water stains. For stubborn stains, gently brush the pores with a mild alkaline detergent.
- Wipe thoroughly, eliminate water stains: When cleaning, start from the top and work your way down, handling the backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and chair legs in order. Use a slightly damp cloth that does not drip to prevent moisture damage.
III. Healthy Sitting Posture and Dynamic Adjustment
- Height adjustment: Adjust the seat so that your feet rest flat on the ground, with your thighs and calves forming a 95ยฐ-100ยฐ angle. If you are not tall enough, use a footrest to keep your knees slightly higher than your hips.
- Precise lumbar support: Align the support point with the natural curve of your lower back to maintain a 15ยฐ forward convexity of the spine. If the original support is insufficient, use a towel or memory foam to fill the gap.
- Armrest support: When your arms hang naturally, gently rest your elbows on the armrests, with your forearms and upper arms forming a 90ยฐ angle. Adjustable armrests can adapt to different scenarios.
- Dynamic breaks: Get up and move every 20-30 minutes of sitting. Practice the "20-20 rule" (stand against a wall for 20 seconds every 20 minutes of sitting, keeping the back of your head and calves vertical) to relieve muscle tension.
