Office Chair Maintenance Knowledge

The maintenance and repair of common office chair malfunctions should be addressed based on specific issues. Here are scientific solutions:

I. Repair for Tilt to One Side
Core Cause: Uneven force distribution due to poor contact or damage to the wheel feet.
- Check Wheel Foot Contact: Place the chair upright and upside down to ensure each wheel foot is in contact with the ground, ruling out uneven flooring.
- Inspect Wheel Foot Condition: Invert the chair and observe if the wheel feet are bent, broken, or worn. If damaged, purchase new wheel sets that match the shape and size of the axle (e.g., nylon or rubber materials).
- Replace Wheels:
- Remove old wheels: Pull them out directly or use a flat-head screwdriver to assist in prying; a few may require loosening fixed screws.
- Install new wheels: Apply a small amount of WD-40 spray lubricant or Vaseline to the base socket and gently tap with a rubber mallet until fully embedded.
- Test stability: Push the chair to observe if it returns to a level position.
II. Lubrication Maintenance Points
Key Principle: Select dedicated lubricants for different components to avoid mixing.
- Elevation System: If the pneumatic rod is stuck or makes noise, apply white lithium grease (NLGI Grade 2) at the connection between the base and the pneumatic rod to reduce metal friction.
- Rotation Mechanism: Regularly apply the same grade of lithium grease to theๅบ็่ฝฌ็่ฝจ้ (base turntable track) to ensure smooth 360ยฐ rotation.
- Armrest Adjustment: Apply a trace of lubricating grease to the internal rack of the height adjustment buckle to resolve looseness or sticking.
- Backrest Rebound: Use food-grade lubricating grease for the plastic gear set of synchronous-type backrests to avoid material corrosion.
- Caster Maintenance: Annually clean the wheel axles with a cotton swab dipped in lubricating grease and remove tangled hair or fibers.
III. Hydraulic System Fault Handling
Typical Symptoms: The backrest cannot stand upright or adjustment fails.
- Inspect Transmission Components: Lay the chair on its side and observe if the hydraulic mechanism is detached. If the fixing screws are damaged, replace them with standard No. 10 screws and adjust the range of motion with washers.
- Replace Hydraulic Rod: If the pneumatic rod is completely ineffective, contact the manufacturer to replace it with a part of the same specification. Do not disassemble the internal nitrogen device by yourself.
IV. Daily and Regular Maintenance
Daily Maintenance:
- Cleaning: Vacuum the mesh/fabric seat surface weekly and wipe the leather seat surface daily with a dry cloth.
- Usage Habits: Avoid heavy pressure (recommended load โค 120 kg) and keep away from direct sunlight to prevent material aging.
Regular Maintenance:
- Lubricate Adjustment Systems: Apply 1-2 drops of lubricating oil when the pneumatic rod is stuck during elevation; apply lithium grease when the tilt system has high resistance.
- Tighten Connectors: Monthly check if the screws connecting the seat surface to the pneumatic rod and the armrests to the base are loose.
- Clean Casters: Use tweezers or needle-nose pliers to remove tangled hair and ensure smooth movement.
Tip: If the problem persists after repair, it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel to avoid secondary damage caused by improper operation.
