Office Chairs: Main and Guest Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

Main and guest chairs in office settings are two categories of chairs classified based on their functions and usage scenarios.

Main Chairs

Main chairs are typically the chairs used by the primary occupants in an office setting, usually placed in front of desks. From a narrow definition of office chairs, they are backrest chairs used by individuals in a seated position while performing desk work. In an office, main chairs are often used by employees for extended periods during their daily work, necessitating good comfort and functionality. For example, they may be equipped with adjustable backrests that can be angled according to the user's sitting posture and physical needs, providing better lumbar support and reducing fatigue from prolonged sitting. They may also have adjustable height features, allowing users to adjust their sitting posture based on the desk height, maintaining proper body posture and preventing cervical and lumbar spine diseases. In some high-end office environments, main chairs may offer additional features such as adjustable armrests that can be adjusted according to the user's arm length and operating habits, reducing arm fatigue. Some main chairs also come with wheels, facilitating movement within the office area and improving work efficiency.

Guest Chairs

Guest chairs are primarily prepared for visiting guests and are usually placed in the reception area, conference room, or opposite the main chairs in an office. The design of guest chairs places more emphasis on aesthetic appeal and harmony with the overall office environment. Their comfort requirements may be slightly lower than those of main chairs, but they must still ensure that guests can sit comfortably. Guest chairs come in a variety of styles and materials, which can be selected to match the overall style of the office. For example, in modern minimalist offices, guest chairs may feature clean lines and be paired with metal or plastic materials, exuding a sense of fashion. In traditional-style offices, guest chairs may be made of wood, paired with soft cushions and backrests, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The number of guest chairs is usually determined based on the office's reception needs and space size to accommodate different numbers of guests.
