Office Chair Main Body

Admin October 08, 2026

The main body of an office chair typically consists of basic components such as casters, a five-star base, a gas lift, a seat plate, a seat cushion, armrests, a backrest, and a headrest. Its structural design is closely related to functional implementation. The following provides an explanation from the perspectives of core components and material characteristics:

1. Core functional components

  • Gas lift: As the core component for height adjustment, it achieves seat lifting and lowering functions through high-pressure gas inside. Its safety is guaranteed by the mechanical explosion-proof mechanism of the metal seat plate, which can withstand dynamic pressure and prevent accidental drops.
  • Seat plate: Usually made of metal, it integrates a mechanical explosion-proof device and a tilt adjustment mechanism. Some high-end models adopt synchronous tilt technology, enabling the backrest and the seat cushion to tilt in tandem, fitting the curve of the human spine.
  • Casters and five-star base: The five-star base provides stability, and its material is usually nylon or metal. Casters are divided into hard casters (suitable for carpets) and soft casters (suitable for hard floors). Some models are equipped with a silent design.

2. Support and comfort components

  • Seat cushion: It is composed of a wooden base layer, a high-density sponge filling layer, and a fabric covering layer. There are various fabric options: linen is breathable and wear-resistant, mesh fabric has good elasticity, and genuine leather enhances the texture and durability.
  • Backrest: The frame is made of steel or plastic, combined with mesh fabric or sponge filling. A mesh fabric backrest is highly breathable and suitable for long-term use; a sponge backrest provides targeted support through zoned designs (such as lumbar support and shoulder support).
  • Armrests: The materials include plastic, metal, or soft coverings. Some models support height and angle adjustments and are even equipped with retractable or rotating functions to adapt to different sitting postures.
  • Headrest: Usually designed to be detachable, it is fixed to the top of the backrest with Velcro or buckles. The filling is mostly memory foam, which can relieve neck pressure.

3. Intelligent expansion
Some high-end office chairs integrate intelligent monitoring systems. They track data such as sitting posture and pressure distribution in real-time through sensors and provide health advice via an APP. The automatic adjustment function relies on motor drives to achieve dynamic adaptation of the seat angle and height.

The design of an office chair needs to balance ergonomics, material science, and safety standards. The synergistic effect of each component directly determines the user experience and health benefits.
