Office Chair Lower Fixation
Admin October 17, 2026
The fixation of an office chair mainly involves two aspects: the locking of the recline function and the height fixation. The specific operations are as follows:

Recline Function Fixation
- Confirm Function and Check Components: First, confirm whether the chair has a recline locking function. Place the chair on a stable floor and check for any damage or looseness in key parts.
- Find the Control Device: Bend over to observe the area under the seat (especially the right side) and the sides to find the handle, lever, or knob that controls the locking.
- Handle/Lever Locking: The adjustment handle is usually located on the right side under the seat. After sitting firmly, pull the handle backward (or upward) with your hand while slowly leaning your back backward. The backrest will recline. When you reach the desired recline angle, release the handle. A clicking sound indicates that the backrest angle is fixed. To return to an upright sitting position, pull the handle again, lean your body slightly forward or sit up straight naturally, and the backrest will automatically spring back.
- Knob Adjustment System: The knob is generally located at the center of the bottom of the seat, near the support column. Rotating it clockwise usually increases the recline resistance, while rotating it counterclockwise reduces the resistance. You can adjust it to a suitable gear position according to your own weight and preference. Some models of knobs also have a locking function. You need to rotate the knob to a specific position or use the method of "pulling out the knob, adjusting the angle, and then pressing it down to lock". Refer to the product manual for specific details.
- Push-Pull Button Type: The button may be set independently or integrated next to the handle. Usually, "pulling the button outward" unlocks the recline function, allowing the backrest to recline. After adjusting to the desired angle, "pressing the button inward" locks the current angle.
- Deal with Slight Shaking After Locking: If the chair shakes slightly after locking, it is usually due to loose connections. Check all the screws and bolts at the connections between the bottom of the seat and the base, and between the armrests and the seat. Tighten them one by one with a screwdriver.
Height Fixation
- Use a Hose Clamp: Slide the plastic skirt down from the cylinder and adjust the chair to a suitable height. If the plastic skirt covers the cylinder, remove the skirt first (turn the chair upside down, use a screwdriver to press the base fixing clip, remove the wheels, then the skirt, and finally reinstall the wheels). Wrap the hose clamp around the air cylinder, loosen the screw, pull out the belt end, and wrap the clamp around the metal cylinder but do not tighten it yet. You can improve the grip by wrapping rubber bands, tape, or sanding the air cylinder. Tighten the clamp as much as possible. After confirming the correct height, tighten the hose clamp and fix it by rotating the screw. Finally, test the chair.
- Use PVC Pipes: Measure the diameter of the chair's cylinder and the length of the cylinder at the desired height. Purchase PVC pipes of the same size as the air cylinder diameter or slightly larger (a pipe with a diameter of 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) is suitable for most models) and long enough straight pipes. Fix the pipe in a vise and use a hacksaw or reciprocating saw to saw from one end to the other, sawing only on one side. It is recommended to wear a mask or respirator when cutting. Slide the pipe over the chair's air cylinder and push the cut side onto the cylinder to make it lock in place.
