Lowering Down an Office Chair
Admin October 08, 2026
The operation of 'lowering down' an office chair usually involves adjusting different parts of the seat. Here are the specific methods:

Adjusting the Backrest
- Armrest Seats: If there are buttons on the armrests of the seat, typically one button is used to move the seat cushion forward and backward, and the other is for adjusting the backrest angle. Locate the button for adjusting the backrest, press it, and lean against the backrest to adjust the angle.
- Knob-Type Adjustment: Some chairs adjust the backrest through a locking knob. Rotate the knob to unlock and adjust the backrest.
- Other Adjustment Methods: The adjustment buttons or levers of some office chairs are located on the side of the seat near the connection with the backrest or under the seat. They are mostly round knobs, levers, or push-button types. When operating, pull up or press down while leaning back with your body. The backrest will adjust its angle due to gravity or manual force. If it is a knob, rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise (some need to be pulled up to unlock first). After adjusting to the appropriate angle, release the lock.
Lowering the Small Table (if equipped)
- Opening the Lid: There may be a lid on the armrest on the right side or in front of the seat. Open it manually.
- Unfolding the Small Table: After opening the lid, you can usually see a small table made of metal or other materials. Pull it upward and then rotate the buckle to fix it. If the chair is equipped with a small table, please be careful not to place overly heavy items on it to avoid exceeding the weight limit and causing damage.
Lowering the Seat Height
- Pneumatic Rod Adjustment: Most modern office chairs are equipped with a pneumatic rod for adjusting the seat height. Locate the handle of the pneumatic rod under the seat, lift it upward, and press down on the seat simultaneously to lower the seat height.
- Knob-Type Adjustment: Some chairs may adjust the height through a knob. Rotate the knob until the seat reaches the desired height.
Reclining the Office Chair (if taking a rest)
- Locating the Adjustment Lever: It is usually located on the base under the chair. You can find it by leaving the seat and observing the base. Before operating, confirm whether the chair has a reclining function to avoid damage from forced force.
- Operating the Adjustment Lever: Use your foot or hand to push it forward. Some office chairs may require pulling both the backrest and the lever at the bottom of the seat simultaneously to recline.
- Adjusting the Angle: After reclining, you can adjust the angle of the seat to find the most comfortable position. After reclining the office chair, avoid lying down for a long time. Some office chairs are for leaning rather than lying flat.
Precautions: Operate gently to avoid damage from excessive force. After adjusting the chair, ensure that all parts are firmly fixed in place to avoid shaking or tilting during use.
