Office Chair Low Leg

Admin October 09, 2026

When an office chair has a situation where the front is higher than the back, there are three main methods to deal with the low legs (rear legs): raising the front legs, shortening the rear legs, and replacing the entire set of chair legs. The specific choice depends on the chair's material, the degree of tilt, and personal tool conditions.

If the chair is made of wood, shortening the rear legs is a relatively appropriate method. Use a plane or sandpaper to evenly sand the bottom ends of the two rear legs. Cut away a small amount each time and repeatedly test the chair's balance after each cut to avoid removing too much material at once, which could change the direction of the chair's tilt or cause other instability issues. Gradually reduce the height of the rear legs until the chair returns to a stable state.

For metal chairs or chairs that are not easy to modify, raising the front legs is a viable option. You can stick rubber pads, wooden pieces, or special furniture leveling pads to the bottom of the front legs. Depending on the degree of the chair's tilt, stack these materials layer by layer. After each layer is added, test the chair's stability to ensure it does not wobble or slide until it reaches a stable state. This method is relatively simple to operate and does not require destructive modifications to the chair itself.

If the chair's structure allows and the tilt is relatively severe, replacing the entire set of chair legs is the most thorough method. First, remove the old legs, and pay attention to recording the original installation method and tilt angle of the chair legs during the disassembly process. Then, make new legs according to the original tilt angle or purchase new legs that meet the requirements. When installing the new legs, ensure that after the four legs are installed, they maintain the ideal front-high-rear-low state so that the chair returns to stability.

No matter which method is used to deal with the low-leg problem of an office chair, repeatedly test the chair's stability after the operation is completed. Place the chair on a flat surface, gently shake it, and observe whether there is any wobbling or sliding to ensure that the chair can be used safely and stably.
