Office Chair Loosening Repair

Admin October 10, 2026

The repair of a loosening office chair requires different methods depending on the loosening part, as follows:

Loose Seat Back

If the backrest cushion falls off, it may be because the nut on the seat cushion has come loose. One repair method: Use a hole opener to enlarge the hole, clean out the original nut, find a No. 6 threaded rod and screw it in, use a four-toothed cable tie to fit into the teeth of the threaded rod, adjust the nut position so that its height is flush with the inside, unscrew the threaded rod to fix the nut when the glue is almost dry, use a screwdriver to twist the threaded rod up and down repeatedly before the glue dries to prevent it from sticking, and finally clean up the surrounding area. Another method: There is a thorough solution, but the specific operation is not detailed. You can further consult professional repair personnel for accurate information.

Office Chair Tilting to One Side

  • Check the wheels: Place the chair upright and upside down to see if the wheels are uneven. Turn the chair upside down and check each wheel foot for signs of damage. If damaged wheels are found, purchase a new set of matching wheels for complete replacement. You can contact the chair manufacturer for the model number to order or remove an old wheel and take it to an office supplies store to find a matching replacement set, ensuring that the shape and size of the wheel axle match.
  • Remove the old casters: Pull out each caster directly. If it cannot be pulled out by hand, insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point, use it as a lever to operate slowly back and forth, and pull out the wheel foot by about 1 centimeter before pulling again; a very small number of casters are fixed with screws, and use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and remove the casters.
  • Apply lubricant: Apply a small amount of spray lubricant, such as WD-40, to each chair base socket. Insert the straw into the spray nozzle and insert it into each socket for a quick half-second spray; if there is no lubricant spray, apply a pea-sized amount of Vaseline to each wheel axle.
  • Install new casters: Use a rubber mallet to knock each caster into its chair socket, align the caster rod with the intended base, push it gently by hand first, and if it does not fit into place, tap it gently with a rubber mallet until the rod is fully inserted into the base. You can tap near the base of the stem to reduce the risk of deformation or breakage of the new caster.
  • Test the new wheels: Turn the chair upside down and sit on it to test. If it rolls smoothly and evenly and no longer tilts to one side, the repair is complete; if it still tilts, continue to check if the seat plate is damaged.

Overall Shaking, Loosening, and Disintegration of the Chair

You can disassemble the chair and perform glue removal, dust cleaning, and waxing maintenance to restore the stability of the chair.
