Office Chair Locking Casters

Admin October 22, 2026

Office chair locking casters can be implemented in the following four ways, and the specific choice should be based on the usage scenario and requirements:

1. Casters with Brake Locking Function
These casters usually have a diameter of 60 millimeters and are designed with a locking button or toggle structure. The locking principle is to fix the axle through a mechanical catch. To lock, press the toggle or button, and the caster will be fixed; to unlock, lift the toggle to restore mobility. Suitable scenarios include those requiring frequent switching between fixed and mobile states, such as offices and meetings. Their advantage lies in easy operation, but regular inspection of catch wear is necessary to avoid locking failure.

2. Gravity Self-Locking Casters
This type of caster relies on gravity to trigger the locking mechanism. The working principle is that when the chair is under pressure (e.g., when someone sits down), the internal spring or hydraulic device increases the resistance to the caster's left and right rotation, making movement difficult; when the person stands up and the pressure disappears, the resistance is automatically released, and the chair regains free movement. Suitable scenarios are those requiring temporary fixation, such as drawing and manual operations. Their advantage is that no manual operation is required, but the locking effect is greatly influenced by body weight, and those with lighter weights may not be able to trigger complete locking.

3. Fixed Foot Pad Replacement Solution
By installing snap-in foot pads or anti-slip fixers, the original casters can be directly replaced. The fixing principle is that the bottom of the foot pad is made of rubber or silicone material to increase friction with the ground, while the snap-in structure ensures a tight connection between the foot pad and the chair leg, preventing sliding. Suitable scenarios are those with extremely low mobility requirements, such as rest chairs for the elderly and study chairs for children. Their advantage is a thorough fixing effect, but attention should be paid to the fact that the height of the foot pad may affect the overall height of the chair, and the chair cannot be moved after replacement.

4. Anti-Slip Carpet Assisted Fixing
Although not directly locking the casters, laying a rough-surfaced carpet (such as a short-pile or rubber-backed carpet) can significantly increase friction and reduce chair sliding. Suitable scenarios are those with low fixing requirements and a need for aesthetics, such as family living rooms and leisure areas. Their advantage is low cost and no need to modify the chair, but the fixing effect is affected by the carpet material and cleanliness, and long-term use may wear the surface of the casters.

Additional Information: There are various specifications of locking casters on the market, such as 2-inch fixed casters for swivel chairs and reinforced solid-version fixed casters, with price ranges from 0.95 yuan to 18.9 yuan. Some products are equipped with felt pads or silent sleeves to reduce movement noise and protect the floor, suitable for use on wooden or tiled floors. When choosing, comprehensive consideration should be given to the chair's weight, usage frequency, and floor material.
