Office Chair Lock Loosening

Admin October 14, 2026

Office chair lock loosening can be resolved through the following methods depending on different parts and types:

If the backrest lock is loose, first confirm whether the chair has a tilt-lock function. For handle/lever lock types, check if the handle is fully returned to its position. Operate it repeatedly to ensure smooth movement. Observe metal catches and other parts for any foreign object blockages or deformation damage. Clean or replace the catches if necessary. For knob adjustment systems, confirm whether the knob has a locking function. Operate it according to the instructions (e.g., "pull out the knob to adjust the angle, then press it down to lock"). Replace the knob if it is aged or damaged. For push-pull button types, check if the button operation is in place ("pull out the button outward" to unlock, "press the button inward" to lock). Replace the button if it is worn. If there is still slight wobbling after locking, check the screws and bolts at the connections between the seat bottom and the base, and between the armrests and the seat. Tighten them with a screwdriver.

If there is wobbling at the connection between the backrest and the chair frame, find the hidden fixing bolts and tighten them with an appropriate wrench. If the bolts are rusty or broken, replace them with galvanized bolts of the same size. After tightening, apply a drop of lubricating oil (such as WD-40) to the bolt rod to reduce friction and prevent further loosening.

If the lock loosening is caused by the gas lift, check the gas lift's seal. If the chair slowly sinks or cannot be locked, it may be due to a decrease in the gas lift's seal. Remove the dust cover at the bottom of the seat, find the gas lift adjustment knob (usually a black plastic part), and rotate it counterclockwise to increase the support force. Test the rebound resistance in stages of 30ยฐ during adjustment until the lock is stable. Replace the gas lift if it is severely aged.

In addition, conduct a comprehensive inspection of all connectors. Use an appropriate screwdriver or wrench to tighten all the screws at the connections between the armrests, the backrest and the seat, and the five-star base and the chassis one by one. For joints that still have slight wobbling after the screws are tightened, use thickened nylon cable ties or polyester reinforcement straps to wrap and bind them, increasing the rigidity of the connection points and reducing wobbling. If the chair has been in use for a long time, it is recommended to regularly (every 6-12 months) inspect and maintain the connectors to extend its service life.
